If I pay $60 at launch for the game, and the DLC is on disk, I shouldn't have to pay for it. Locking content that is on disk is bull****, just look at what happened to Capcom's Street Fighter X Tekken. Fans are starting to get fed up with this.

It's like buying a bottle of milk only to have to pay extra to open the damn thing!

To be fair locked on disk is super easy to circumvent around as you can just unlock it yourself by going into the game files.

And before you tell me that's wrong or unethical let me ask you this. If you bought a book and found that some of the pages inside were stapled together and the publisher asked you for 10 dollars to get a special staple remover you'd actually pay it and not just use a fingernail file and take the staple off yourself? Don't lie to me. No matter how moral you think you are and wether you believe you'd do the right thing we both know at the end of the day you'll just take the staple off yourself.

I would a big asterik on that statement

*People want Day One DLC that gives the feel of adding something to the game... NOT something that feels like it was stripped out of the game, and then sold back to the customer.

If the DLC is already on the disk, I shouldn't have to pay for it twice. To do so is theft, plain and simple.

The problem is that people both do and don't want Day One DLC.

We want it if it is extra little goodies that are fun useful little addtions to the game but dont detract from the experience if you dont have it.

We don't want disk locked content that you need to pay 10 quid for.
We don't want story critical content parcelled away into Day One DLC.

Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect 2 got away with Shale and Zaeed being Day One DLC for several reasons:

1: They were completed post "gold" period and thus werent on the disk.
2: They were free to most users.
3: They were not story critical content but nice little additions to the game.
4: The users that did need to pay for them only paid a small amount.

By contrast the Day One DLC in the form of Javik failed completely, and was nothing less than insulting. And is something we definately DO NOT want to see again.

Why?

1: Javik, as much as Bioware insists to the contrary, is story critical.
2: Javik was not free for most users.
3: And worst of all Javik was disk locked content.
4: Javik was hugely expensive, on top an already expensive game.

So yeh Bioware, once again your PR sucks.

It's simple. Players want full game. If the game is really good, many players will agree to be milked a bit just to get full content. But you need a REALLY good game to begin with to profit from such DLC. Game like Dragon's Dogma can afford that, game of Dragon age 2 quality can't.

Hey, I want it too so get me on that darned list of yours. 'slong as I'm not being cheated into paying for what would otherwise have been free, I'm game. The more content available, the better.

The nature of day one DLC is that you are paying extra for content that is already on the disc.

My favorite DLC are the preorder bonuses. Ones like Shale in Origins or Sebastian in DA2 made me feel good about preordering. Of course, EA stopped that in Mass Effect 3, got greedy, and made Javik purchasable instead of a bonus... lame

as long as Dragon Age 3 gets a good preorder incentive like the last two, I'll be happy, and will totally preorder.

It's going to have a thousand peices of promotional DLC and an extra character that costs 10 dollars extra on release.

I think people overreacted about the Javik DLC. If you don't like it, then don't buy it. It's a purely option feature.

That being said, I also wish they'd return to free bonus characters with purchase like Zaeed.

I was fine with it until ME3 when it didn't matter if you pre-ordered a game months in advance. Now it is being used to get you to pay $80 for a game instead of $60, rather than just to intice you to buy the game new.

So it doesn't matter anymore if you pre-order, I'll just wait for the reviews and fans reaction to a game before I decide to buy it or not and hope that the dlc isn't an intergal part of the main game storywise.

Definitely not necessarily true. Sebastian isn't on the disc, Shale isn't on the disc, Zaeed isn't on the disc, Javik isn't completely on the disc. Moreover, even if it's on the disc, the content may not have been created if there were no plans to make day1 DLC. In that case, you'd get the same game whether the DLC existed and you didn't pay for the DLC, as if the DLC didn't exist at all. Is it bad that some people may add content to the game early?

I have mixed feelings on the whole Day-1 DLC issue. On the one hand, as long as it's a case of this was content that was made mostly/entirely during the period between the game going gold and the game being released, then I'm fine with it. (Or if it's like Shale or the Cerberus Network in that it comes with new copies of the game for free) On the other hand, if it's just content that was ripped right out of the original game or locked on the disc, then I hate it. (I still hate Epic Games for including the content of the Horde Command Pack on the Gears 3 disc, yet forcing you to purchase a damn unlock code to use it)

Sebastian and Javik were on the disc and the other two were free.

Even if they weren't on the disc it is wrong to charge for new characters a day one DLC, its just a greedy money making scheme.

Frankly, a lot depends on whether you trust the company when they tell you that this is additional content. It's something you basically have to take their word for.

Unfortunately, recent experiences leave me with rather little trust.

I may be wrong here, but from memory, isn't both Sebastian and Javik's DLCs some 700mb in size? That leaves some content on the disc, sure, but not all.

How is it greedy? Content costs money to make. Why should people be expected to work for free? If anything, I can concede the DLC is probably overpriced when compared to the actual game, seeing how much (little) you get. That's all, however.

I think it's kind of greedy....And i buy them and enjoy them for the most part.
Before we had expansion ...usually they didn't flesh out the main game but offer a brand new adventure.I like that better ...I was looking forward to an da2 expansion and I was hoping dlc would happen after kirkwall.

I like DA2 dlc because they offer fresh air during the Kirkwall campaign.
But i really do think the main game was rushed , and spending 40h visiting the same map over and over again was bad.
DLC shouldn't be there to enhanced a rushed game in the first place.

My point is before thinking about creating extra content and make people pay for it...they should polish their main game.
All the time and money they invested in DLC wouldn't have hurt DA2 ...
And when I buy a game i pay for the same price , wether it's a game that's rushed or not.

And just like anybody else , when i like something i want more content.

But i'm sorry thing like ME3 , when you met a pnj talking about omega and going on a quest about it , and then it ends. And you don't see Omega but can picture in the future how a buy omega dlc is gonna happen ....
I think it's kind of bad.

Do i want them to stop DLC , not at all.
I just want to buy them without having to worry if one day 50% of the companion are gonna be dlc , and tons of quest lead me to a dead end with a note "if you enjoy this quest , buy our dlc!".

Javik was in the game pretty much in his entirety, What you got when you downloaded the dlc was the short eden prime mission and a bunch of plot flags. So the content that people actually cared about was already part of the game to begin with and Bioware made you pay to unlock it.
