OK, it seems that there is a misunderstanding concerning "The Calling"... Book is right in front of me - page 93...
"Don't you have a young son?" she asked
"Cailan. He is five years old, yes."

Interesting...there are two versions it seems...

Mr Gaider! We are onto you sir....

Making 2 versions to try and outwit us....Image IPB

Indeed. As if we didn't do enough brainstorming already you throw this on us. For shame. ;):D

Well, in that case I'm going to split the difference. Cailan is 7 in The Calling until someone tells me otherwise. :P

Is the "fourteen years ago" on page 24 different in your version, by any chance?

OR maybe Maric being a holy warrior of justice and the king of Ferelden that obviously did not have sex with any other woman to produce Alistair at ALL.......!Image IPB

Could of been a bad father and thus got his sons age wrong Image IPB I know, happens all the time.Image IPB

Looking at game design, Cailan and Allistair looks about equal in terms of age. The game hints say that Cailan has been king for 5 years, and the general impression you get from say Arl Howe suggests that he's young, immature/unfit etc.I imagined Cailan was about 20 when his father died and he took the throne, making him 25 years old, and that Allistair got recruited just before his templar vows making him ca. 18-20 at that point, and that he got a year or three with experience before the start of the game, making him 21-23. The way everyone goes about how Duncan was like a father to Allistair and how Loghain always seem to (want to) mentor Cailan makes them seem very young. So, does this mean that Maric cheated on his wife? The way the game presents him makes him seem like paragon of good kind of guy, not someone breaking his vows.

And as for Maric not cheating on his wife ... well, he was shocked to discover his wife-to-be was upset about him banging an virtually unknown elf moments after waking up from a life-threatening injury ...  He definately wasn't a paragon of anything - he was just a man who was to become king and made mistakes just like any other man might. Of course his *son* is going to see him in a virtuous light - that and most people didn't go around openly talking about the love-lives of their rulers out in the open, that was backroom gossip.
