I have been playing ME3 for a month or so now, and after the initial Origin setup (which took a rather ridiculous 8 hours) the game has been working with generally no issues. However, Mass Effect 3 or Origin creates a process called EACoreServer.exe which cannot be closed. I can't manually end the process in Task Manager, regardless of how many times I try. At times, upwards of 10-15 of these processes will be running, each of which is uncloseable. Normally I wouldn't care all that much, as each process only takes about 300KB of memory, but the fact that they are uncloseable prevents the computer from shutting down/restarting/logging off/etc. I haven't been able to properly shut down my computer in a few days now, and I'm sure cold booting is not good for the machine. Is there anything I can do to prevent the process from opening, or (if it is necessary to play ME3) is there any way to force it to shut down so I can actually properly turn off my computer? I would appreciate any advice.

Don't complain to EA, it wouldn't do any good. The game is perfectly playable, so they wouldn't give you a refund. However, since I posted this topic almost 2 months ago, I got tired of waiting for a response so I decided to just delete the stupid file. So far I have not run into any problems with multiplayer beyond the typical stuff. I would recommend just moving the file to a different folder at first, confirming that the game runs perfectly fine without it, and then deleting it when you're confident that the file is no longer needed.

The process doesn't show up for me any more, and I'm actually able to restart/shut down my computer the normal way instead of just powering down.

how odd, i never had a problem wiht forcing it to close when i got the app hang message, then again i am useing nero's tuneup utilities which force refreshes the memory when somethign is unloaded >>>

maybe thats why ive never come across this particular oddity.

I just realized that after the most recent patch, I'm once again having the ridiculous EACoreServer process running in the background. I have three of them running as I type this. I will have to look into that Nero software nanotm mentioned so that I don't have to simply power down the machine again.

Is there any way to avoid this file being reinstalled by Origin? I didn't realize the game would "repair" itself, even for the unnecessary broken files.

Edit: As an attempt to avoid the file from recreating itself, I have created a 0KB text document and renamed it "EACoreServer.exe" and put it in place of the original file. It won't do anything if Origin attempts to execute it, and hopefully having it in the folder will prevent Origin from trying to replace it.

Edit2 (12/Nov): After the most recent update, my fake EACoreServer.exe placeholder file was replaced with Origin's EACoreServer.exe file... I didn't realize this until just now. I currently have 13 of these processes running, none of which can be closed, which of course means it's once again going to impossible to restart my computer. This issue seriously needs to be addressed.
