The scale of such story will be too small. The best they can do in such prequel is something very similar to DE:HR. But with the reserved Dark Energy plot and using inevitable Synthesis they can make a stroy even more deep and massive than the story of ME Trilogy...

...Dark Energy plot can't be used for prequels. Its scale is too large, even larger than "the Reapers" plot.

And why does the story need to be larger in scale than the original trilogy? Are you telling me that the only way foward to is up the ante from galactic extinction? Why do we need to go bigger than this?

And the idea that "larger scale = deeper story" is laughable.

When someone is building truly amazing story, both scale and depth matters. I strongly believe the new story should be better than ME Trilogy in all aspects.

I do not believe scale matters in the way you think. You can tell an amazing story in any setting with any scale. Lord of war, which is one my favorite movies ever, was not about saving the world from some grand threat. It was about a weapons dealer. Granted it was not completely small scale either, since the protagonist sold weapons to countries all over the world, but I never claimed my idea would be about following some average guy either. A spy game would still allow for a flexible and rich setting, that while a step down compared to the trilogy is still large in its own right.

Well, I understand that. But for me, a great story with great scale is always better than a great story with small scale.

That would do to Mass Effect 3 what it did to Mass Effect 2.

Aside from introducing a few new plot elements and building up the setting for the next game, it has little to no reason to exist in terms of the overall plot.

ME3 did nothing bad to ME2 or ME1.

Apart from invalidating the need for it to exist in terms of the plot.

Because nothing you do in that respect has any effect on moving the plot forward. Stopping the Collectors might as well have not happened.

In this particular case Shepard's story ended 500 years ago. But all major events still have impact due to ME3 save import feature.

The same as Mass Effect 2. Some of the things you do have a marginal effect. The important stuff means jack all. Synthesis happens anyway, in this theory.

And we still have Dark Energy plot reserved, remember?

Unfortunately. God save us all if that ever gets used, it's as bad what we have.

Aside from rendering them both irrelevant, you mean.

You just don't like the endings. I think you will have different opinion on the matter 2 years later.

I'll have moved on to different things in two years. I can guarantee that I'll always despise what they did in those last few hours of Mass Effect, but in a few years I just wont care.

A spy story could easily include back-stage politics on a interspecies level, espionage and subterfuge, arms dealers supplying weapons to keep conflict going on backwater planets, drug cartels, warlords who try to maintain control over their petty nations while the bigger powers are trying to manipulate them into siding with them.

That might be smaller than the Reapers, but it is still a large scale.

Well, personally I can't call this large scale. Especially after ME Trilogy events. I think that spy story would be too minor.

Besides, they already have Dragon Age Universe for some small-scale adventure stories.

I prefer ME Universe to keep the depth and scale it had from the beginning.

This topic led me a new fan-art idea :)

Maybe it will help people to like the theory. I'll be back, when I'll create the picture.

You're reading a Seival theory thread.

If you've come here looking for something logical and reasonable, then you're in the wrong place.

Don't make the same mistake as in case of original endings. Try to read the idea carefully and analize it first.

Oh, still carrying that the 'people didn't like the original endings because they didn't think about it' stick?

I think I was away from BSN for about two months and nothing has changed. dreman9999 is impossible to argue with, Seival still hates the use of logic, and most people still hate the endings.

Still wish I had a window.

One thing that's not the same on BSN is that Taboo XX doesn't post any Pink Floyd related idea threads.
