I love EDI as a squadmember. I love her character growth, and when you take her on missions, she has some hilarious dialogue.

I couldn't give two sh*ts if she's oversexualized or not. I don't judge by appearances.

I agree with this. Whether or not she was attractive was beside the point for me - I liked having her in the game because she was an interesting and funny character.

EDI's body isn't the only reason she was my least-favourite character on the ME3 squad.

Is that hate towards EDI though or hate towards how character designers handled her body? I've mostly seen that people like EDI's character, but don't like that she got turned into a sexbot.

I don't see how she was turned into a "sexbot" just because her new body is attractive by conventional standards and she can have a relationship with Joker. It's not as if having sex with organics has suddenly become her reason for existing. If being an attractive female and a possible LI for another crew member reduces a character to being a sex object, then so are Liara, Miranda, Tali, Ashley, Jack, Kelly, Samantha, Diana, and probably at least 70-80% of the female Shepards out there.

I don't hate EDI at all, I liked her evolution, it was interesting, amusing and at times quite charming. Much the way Grunts evolution is in ME2, I felt my Shep had to help them "grow" and evolve to understand why we fight at all costs. Same goes with Jack in 2, and I liked her hair in 3.
With that said, I still would have preferred a 2 sqauddie....

I've always loved her character, but you know how BSN is towards female characters - Jacob shows abs, fine, Miranda shows ass (Bioware's fault for that anyway), most haters can't look past that, same with Jack and her belt-bra thingymajigy.

I like EDI. Lots of people like EDI. The fact that your thread might have failed is more likely a result of my desire to not get involved in an EDI flame war.

That is exactly the kind of juvenile behavior gamers should avoid, if they want to evolve as a fandom. There is no gray, only two different factions, and both of them are terribily sexist: the ones that love a game because the main characters has a great ass, and the ones that hates every female character that has recognizable curves.

EDI was the best character in both ME2 and ME3. No one hated her during ME2 for some reason. Now she get a body, and has useful powers and somehow people hate on her. I personally think people dislike her because they the devs cut Miranda out to fit her in. Which is stupid. The devs cut Miranda out because they were stupid. EDI was the only ME2 only character to have a big role in ME3. Tali and Garrus are ME1 characters.

Did the devs specifically say that Miranda was originally going to be a squadmate in ME3 but was removed to make room for EDI?

I like Miranda as a character, but if push came to shove, EDI probably had more potential for ME3. Miranda's role in ME2 was to be the Cerberus loyalist who gradually comes to trust Shepard and reconsider some of her views. Once that plays out, there's not a whole lot more room for her character to develop. That's not to say I wouldn't have welcomed having her aboard the Normandy, just that EDI's inclusion over her (again, *if* that's what happened) was probably a net positive.

The one remaining angle, if BW really wanted to throw in something that would only pop up during certain types of playthroughs, might have been if she ended ME2 disloyal to Shepard and became more antagonistic, either aiding TIM's schemes in ME3 or at least being somewhat ambivalent.

There is nothing wrong with EDI. What is wrong is the ludicrous premise that glowy boy makes. And the ludicrousness of it caused backlash on EDI, as far as I can tell.

"Oversexualized" is a phrase frumps and fatties use to shame male sexuality into liking, well, frumps and fatties. A bemused laugh is all that word gets out of me.

EDI on the other hand grates after a while but that has more to do with her earnest Pinocchio shtick than anything else.

I don't agree. Even if the body was suppose to have significant to the characters in-game, it was also suppose to attract players with sex appeal. I really don't see why should BioWare make EDI be oversexualized to the characters in the game to make her understand how organics work. There are so many ways for EDI to move on from the prejudices. Being a mobile platform is enough for organics to react to you. But they conveniently chose this one? I'm sorry, but I don't buy it (And BTW, Samara is not a romance option either. Doesn't stop her from showing her boobs).

It's not that I hate EDI. I love her, she's one of my favorite characters. EDI has a great character development and I don't mind her having a body at all, even oversexualized one. But I certaintly wouldn't mind an alternative outfits DLC :)

Your comment is almost sexist and unnecesarily harsh and somehow I love it.

Actually, it started from religion. Meaning, the phrase came from the men.

The issue that seems to get completely overlooked (for reasons I cannot understand) is that EDI is the AI that is inside the body, not the body itself. The body belongs to Eva Core, who was designed by TIM to be an infiltration unit.

The "camel-toe" is an indication of the anatomical accuracy of the unit, and has NOTHING to do with EDI or her character development.

No the devs would never say something like that, the fans just jumped to that conclusion.  Both Miranda and EDI have perfect bodies and skin tight outfits, it was natural for fans to see the similarities and conclude that Miranda was kicked off the roster to make room for EDI.

I like Miranda as a character, but if push came to shove, EDI probably had more potential for ME3. I agree with you.  Miranda's plot and purpose in it was played out in ME2, while EDI's process of self-acutalization was just unfolding.  Her romance with Joker was a great foil to the Reaper's bleak conclusion that organics and synthetic could not get along.  Some say Leigon did that already, but I disagree.  Leigon still had a lot of cultural baggage and that history tainted every interaction.

EDI was my favorite character, par none.  She had a great devoplment and her powers were super useful.  Defense matrix is so brokeningly good that it is the only power not in multiplayer.  People who don't like EDI are crazy.

And yet the Mirandi support page is filled with fanboys, while an EDI one is filled with trolls.  Being oversexualized isn't the issue as far as I can see.  Miranda already had that pharse in the bag.

I like EDI.
I hate what her body represents. We can (apparently) only have female squadmembers if they wear uniforms that adhere (and then some) to their curves.
Liara got a buy because she wore that "scientist" outfit in ME1 that everyone wore.
The Quarians get a buy because lugging around in big bulky space suits all day is going to get real tiring real fast and it will kill being able to move normally.

Seriously BioWare, we can relate to characters if they aren't fan service. It's ok. I still like Tali even though we never get to see her face. (No, the picture doesn't count. In-game model here people.)
Just a pro-tip guys for DA3 and all.

Turning EDI into a fembot was seriously annoying. It just seemed so cartoonish and out of phase with the rest of the character and art design.

The reason most people don't hate her is not because of that bloody body but because her "becoming human" for a robot is done to death a billion times over. I told her she's not human through the whole game............. end of the game my Shep says "You found your human side". Thanks for that autodialogue! Plus it's all only Joker talks about now, "EDI this, Edi that!"

Her voice matched her new body.  Yet you weren't annoyed about Miranda?  I call hypocrite on the lot of you!!
