It doesn't do any damage, it seems to be there just to scare the hell out of me. I play with my sound fairly loud so I can enjoy every bit of overwhelm goodness of this game (though not as fun when it's being done to you). Overwhelm has such pretty sounds, but I digress. There is one trap in particular which I can't seem to disarm, and continues to make that horrible sound. I try to minimize going back and forth thru that area because of it.
What's with that trap that makes that horendous loud banging/screeching sound?

I would like to know as well. You are referring to that tripwire in the deep roads trenches area I assume? No clue what it triggers. And yes it is loud.

It seems to summon shrieks to attack you, but only works the first 1-2 times.

And it can be disarmed.

IIRC, it's supposed to be a blade trap. I've seen it described as such in a some guide somewhere. But you are right, it doesn't do much damage. PatT2 is right, it can be disarmed.

I've seen it do some 20 damage once, but most of the time party members won't get damaged by it at all.
Only 3 places where I heard that trap, but only in the dead trenches it would repeat.
Also, for some reason, the one in the dead trenches I wasn't able to disable since the trap sticks, which I usually use to deactivate a trap, are apparently in the wall, but I may be very wrong.

This is an ancient thread, but I thought I'd revive it because it popped up on google.
With version 1.04, I was able to normally spot and disarm the Blade Traps that appeared in the Anvil of the Void (the room where golems attack you in pairs). This was using Leliana who had 2 boxes of trap disarming and fairly high cunning.
