Jessica Merizan: "Don't get too attached to a plot"

I don't trust anything that comes from their mouths until it is seen in action
She could say Mass Effect 3 was a dream but until i see and or play it myself as proof I don't care what she says, Gamble, Casey, Mack, etc.

Ares are you serious? on the ME2 forums people HATED harby and wanted Sovereign back!
(Me personally I loved both) but yeah. At first people on the BSN wanted to draw and quarter harby and his one liners.
But at least we got to hear one of the reapers talk (rannoch) and harbinger did speak of shepard (probably complaints I reckon, "He hurt us and all that")
I never had a problem with Harbinger and his lines, just because the ME2 forums was like that doesn't mean everyone hated Harbinger, sure some people liked Sovereign more and yea Harbinger was kinda of a troll. The Human Reaper was the real thing people didn't like in ME2
a random Reaper Destroyer over the oldest first True Reaper who should have been leader isn't nowhere near equal
True, but in the game it was never mentioned (at least in ME2) that Harbinger was the reaper leader (outside of codex I think...but thats another story). And we interacted with the AI that controls the reapers so why would interacting with Harbinger be needed? We went over him.
and sure not everyone ahted Harby, i liked him too, but I was merely mentioning the general consensus ont he forum at the time, in a rather tongue in cheek way. But after learning the truth about the reapers from starkid, what else is there to know about Harby?
We learned their reasons and what they were and found out the why. Sure some didnt like the answer (and still use Sovereigns obvious puffed up lines as gospel) but it was all laid out for us "mostly"

Remember when video game developers were actually nerds like us, who enjoy wasting time in an incredible intricate world? Now they grow up, and it's all a job to them.
This... this is too easy.
No... I won't do it. I don't play teeball.

Damn it. Yes, I will.
Maybe you need to grow up and get a job, too.
Let's not get pushy here. Anyway, video game needs passion to make. Otherwise, you might go ahead and release "The Adventures of Commander Shepard" every 6 months and try to make a living out of that.

No one is taking this out of context, we have the full conversation.
The title of the thread and OP have it out of context. The full conversation shows it to be a poor wording of "don't get attached to a specific plotline that may not be followed up on" or (unlikely) "you shouldn't care about the story at all."
I'm not even sure what you mean you got too attached to that plotline, it set up the entire game and was even The Illusive Man's primary argument for keeping the collector base.
TIM:"Some people would say what we did to you was going too far, but look at what you've accomplished."
Maybe it's just me, but it wasn't a big deal except in the beginning and end of the game. Plus, I was expecting something more existential. Which is probably why I like cyberpunk better than straight-up sci-fi...
The plots I was referring to in ME1 was a hacker who wanted to help gamblers cheat the machines, and one way to get him to back down is to tell him to use his skills to help people. As far as I know, this guy is never seen again. And what plots do you mean exactly? Diana Allers? The kid? I don't think there's an excuse for this.

The problem is that the kid was introduced by completely disregarding our knowledge of the past games. It didn't make any sense, and the reasoning behind it is "we had other ideas we wanted to explore, don't get too attached to a plot." We wouldn't have known about Harbinger in the first place if the kid hadn't of been brought in, and he shouldn't have been.Cainne Chapel wrote...

this proves that Bioware does even try to improve things anymore and just cut it out

1: BioWare has once again said something that is obviously trolling
2: Or Merizan, like many of us, has a genuine love for these games and is acknowledging that the plot for ME3 isn't strong, so she is suggesting we not focus too much on it to enjoy ourselves more.
I'd like to think it's the latter, but I don't know with BioWare anymore.

Thank you for looking at it logically.Atakuma wrote...
As annoying and ridiculous as he was, getting rid of Harbinger was a mistake. All it did was create a big inconsistency where in one game he's this seemingly omniscient presence throughout, and in the next he's there for all of ten seconds with the sole purpose of shooting you with a laser. Simply sprinkling a few convos with him throughout the game would not only have eliminated the problems with him in ME2 (i.e. being a disembodied dispensary of cheesy one liners) but it would've also helped better tie the narrative together.

Honestly reread her statement, it's NOT saying that stories are unimportant just that it really shouldn't be the ultimate factor in deciding whether a video game is good or not.

Actually it is pretty much like they're saying the story doesn't matter, because they cut out the primary antagonist in favor of exploring other ideas.
Again I don't understand what you mean. Were you expecting them to talk non stop throughout the game about Shepard coming back to life?
And that comparison is so invalid. Harbinger was constantly present throughout the game, shown to be in front of the Reapers, it would have been really hard to assume he's not the leader of the Reapers. Yours on the other hand is one guy who showed up once in the game in a minor siderole.
