An update to everyone who replied: I finished the game on Hardcore. It was perfect for me. The mooks were easy to dispose of, grunts were some challenge and Banshees, Atlas mechs and Geth Primes were hard. Perfect!
Specced my Vanguard with reave and went with maximum biotic explosions. It was a blast.
