I know she has to use magic versus Irenicus... plus she gets stuck in Spellhold.

Would it still make sense if i made her a pure thief, but her magical abilites were just something innate and not something she'd go into depths about...

Or is there a lot of reference to Imoen being a mage that not dualling would completely ruin it?

Basically i just need to be able to play with at least one thief after i get imoen back without having to ever rely on Jan (albeit i never had to ever since i *barely * survive with Nalia the "bugled by a cat type of thief")

I could always turn Nalia into a pure thief for half of Shadows of amn (since i remember distinctly that she brags about her magical prowress non stop in TOB).

But the main thing is Imoen in my current BG1 phase is a level 9 thief so... be sad to lose 2 whole levels after i'm done. :wizard:

Most of the plot justification for her dual to Mage takes place in BG1 but it’s your game... how about swapping the classes around i.e. level 7 Mage dualed to Thief or just make her into a Half-Elf Multi?

You could always use Shadowkeeper or similar to boost her thieving abilities to what they were.
Just record her attributes at the end of BG1 including thieving attributes etc. and then alter them after she has joined you in BG2.

I can see the interest of the mage to thief thing. Only downpart is the obvious lack of spells, but give her illusion spells and the strengh spell and she can backstab like there's no tomorrow. I made a Mage/Thief dual before, though not as effective as the reverse to a large degree, but worth it for a continuous thief.

Also once i get Imoen back after Spellhold will she have reverted back to the default?

Imoen will be a thief/mage with the mage being level 11 or 13, depending on the party's experience levels. She basically is of no relation to the Imoen of Irenicus Dungen.
