Lets put it another way.
If you are gay, do you have no interest whatsoever in Tali, the straight love interest. Do you not care what she has to say, do you not want to check in on her? I should imagine most of you do. Why? Because she is not defined by the fact that she is straight. She will talk to you about her home, she'll talk to you about the Geth, she'll be great for all players.
Steve doesn't have that. His first interaction is about his dead gay husband. Then shortly after his husband is put away he's in a nightclub hitting on you. There is nothing about him besides his sexuality. There is nothing to make him appeal to a straight person as a character, there is no comaradarie. He's simply the go-to option for a gay relationship.
That isn't homophobic, it's just noticing bad writing. I skip scenes with him because I could care less about him. If Garrus was the gay option, i'd still be checking in on him in the armory because he's a well written character.
They did a decent job with Traynor the lesbian option, who improves in character development as the game goes on. So why not with Steve? They just seemed content to stick a gay man in a corner and say "this ones gay, go for it". You can shout homophobia all you like, but I have nothing against him being gay. I just dislike that that is all there is to him.
And yet you cry about Steve getting that content which would make him "a better written character."
Go figure.

You are right. Kasumi was also a badly written character. She had much more personality than Steve, but still a badly written character. However Kasumi was an optional DLC and they had barely any character development time for her. They had all the time in ME3 development to make Steve appeal to everyone, and not just gays. Having failed to do that, they shouldn't then shoehorn him into the final mission and things. He may be important to gay people, but I haven't met a straight person who didn't think he was just a big advertisment for gays. There is nothing about his character at all to appeal to anyone who isn't gay.

You're in minority who thinks Kasumi was badly written. She's a popular and liked character, even though her story is about dead lover. Newsflash. That may be interesting to everyone, not just those who want to hook up with Kasumi. And how is Steve a one big advertisement for gays? I failed to notice when he talked best gay clubs on the Citadel or what kind of guys he likes. Instead, he was talking ships and drinking with Vega. OMG so gay!Justin2k wrote...

Will it though? Do you really think a little bit of DLC is going to improve him? The majority of players would rather have a character they like/identify with to accompany us through Leviathan. You're gay and you're happy with this sub-par character as your gay option, great. But most people just didn't like him. Nothing to do with sexuality. As said before if you are not gay Steve doesn't offer anything to make you like or care about him.
Honestly, if you had an out and out **** as a straight option, who's husband just died and she's pouncing on you in a nightclub, I'd turn it down. Most gay people I know are not like that. This Steve is just purely about sex. His husband died and he's jumping on Shepard??? That puts gays in a bad light and gives credence to the "its just a sexual fetish" crowd in my opinion. If I were gay, I'd be clambering Bioware to write a realistic, good gay character and not just cram it in for the sake of it.

Oh she's popular and liked sure. She's great, i loved her. But she was badly written. There isn't really much to her, which is to be expected given development time and her being an afterthought to make money on DLC. I won't talk you around, however I advise you to go watch Torchwood, Brothers and Sisters and Six feet under and check out some gay characters who don't announce their sexuality when they first shake hands with someone, and don't hit on someone just months after burying the love of their life. He's gay for the sake of gay, nothing more nothing less. If they didn't want a gay character, we wouldn't have a pilot in ME3. If you cannot see that, you are blind.

First of all, you missed all the irony.
Second of all, what proof do you have (see bolded text). This thread has more people who are cool with him than those who don't like him. The latter group is just very vocal about it.

Steve's a well written character. That's an opinion. And I'm not only talking about his romance sub-plot which you'd like to focus on.
Most gays here on BSN have not felt that they were put on a bad light (as far as I know). You don't even know what you're talking about.
All in all, your post is based on a loose ground. Thus it's doomed to fail.

Steve never hit on my Shep. It was a bro type talks they had and I never tried with Steve since Shep was with Ash. Unlike Anders in DA2, you can be nice to Steve without getting all "I got to sleep with you". That's one thing I think BW improved on at least is not making it seem like just being nice to someone means you want them in your bed.
Very little else they improved on though.
