Homophobia is easy to say then other words that could result in bans for people who don't like gay people.Drewton wrote...

I will let the mods judge that one, from 5 minutes ago.
Why do you respond strongly to a statement that I made which was not specifically directed at you? If you were not homophobic then it would simply not apply to you. There would be no need to respond to what I said at all. But, according to you homophobia is not the case, eventhough Steve's sexualuality matters somehow. Ghehe.Justin2k wrote...
Because I would rather them hire Tali, Ashley, Vega or Garrus to talk me through Leviathan rather than a tacky pilot character who's only purpose of being in the game is his sexuality.... I am homophobic?AngryFrozenWater wrote...
One can expect how a thread like this is going to end up. Steve is not the problem here. The homophobes are.
Not at all. There is nothing homophobic or wrong in seeing that not everyone needs to be gay, and gay people do not always need to be presented in a positive light or take the spotlight from straight people. That is not homophobic..
He is a bland character with no depth beside the fact he is gay. People like you who cry homophobia or racism every time a black or gay person is criticized, add to the problem, don't solve it. I am as entitled to call Steve a crap character as you are entitled to call Joker a crap character.

Sometimes it's like Bioware purposely tries to frustrate me with their decisions. I read a little preview on Kotaku about Leviathan, and it seems to indicate that most of the dialogue is going to be with Cortez. Usually in their DLC, Bioware picks one character to be the "talker" and Shepard has almost all of his/her dialogue with that one character, like Liara in LotSB or Gavin Archer in Overlord. It makes sense... to save on time and money just have one actor in addition to the Shepard actors record the majority of the dialogue. But the important thing is to pick a character people actually like or care about. In the description of the mission they played, Kotaku mention Cortez a lot, so it looks like he's going to be the "talker" in Leviathan.
If it's true, what gives Bioware the impression that Steve is the character we want more time with? Lots of Steve dialogue combined with a promise of some extra Catalyst Boy dialogue makes me begin to wonder if Bioware is just trying to see how irate they can make everyone.
DLC is real simple: just feature any of the major characters from any of the games. That's why Lair of the Shadow Broker is everyone's favorite DLC -- it's because it features Liara. Cortez is no Liara. He's OK, but he's not one of our beloved characters. Even the least favorite "major" Mass Effect character like Jacob or Zaeed would be a FAR better choice as a featured character in DLC than Steve.

Except that Steve wasn't talking about the Reapers in the demo that featured combat section in 1 planet out of 3 in Leviathan DLC.MegaSovereign wrote...
I don't mind Steve but I wish we could talk to EDI or someone that would logically be knowledgeable about the Reapers.

Lets put it another way.
If you are gay, do you have no interest whatsoever in Tali, the straight love interest. Do you not care what she has to say, do you not want to check in on her? I should imagine most of you do. Why? Because she is not defined by the fact that she is straight. She will talk to you about her home, she'll talk to you about the Geth, she'll be great for all players.
Steve doesn't have that. His first interaction is about his dead gay husband. Then shortly after his husband is put away he's in a nightclub hitting on you. There is nothing about him besides his sexuality. There is nothing to make him appeal to a straight person as a character, there is no comaradarie. He's simply the go-to option for a gay relationship.
That isn't homophobic, it's just noticing bad writing. I skip scenes with him because I could care less about him. If Garrus was the gay option, i'd still be checking in on him in the armory because he's a well written character.
They did a decent job with Traynor the lesbian option, who improves in character development as the game goes on. So why not with Steve? They just seemed content to stick a gay man in a corner and say "this ones gay, go for it". You can shout homophobia all you like, but I have nothing against him being gay. I just dislike that that is all there is to him.

Did I see you whining that Kasumi is defined by nothing but her heterosexuality? First conversation with her is about her dead boyfriend and then an entire mission about it and then she hits on Jacob etc.Justin2k wrote...

It has NOTHING to do with the fact he's gay. I just really don't like him. I didn't see the need to cram a pilot into the end of the triology and try to make him one of the most important characters.
Actually that probably is BECAUSE he's gay. I don't dislike him because he's gay, but he's rammed down my throat because he's gay. It's political correctness crap. Video games are my escape from this kinda thing.
