ErrorTagUnknown wrote...here here. I kind of hated the ME2 mattock, simply because - like the GPS - it was so OP that it invalidated every other weapon choice.... 'cept maybe the revenant (two friends at work despised it... i loved it. meh different strokes i guess). Anyway
Megabeast - here's to you. Go look at that "cheers" gif again. you've earned it.
We need these buffs. i love most of these UP guns you mention... and i still use them. they can be made to work, but you're right - it just feels like there are better choices i could be making..... Every time i take the scimitar i know it's purely because i like the gun (out DPS'd the GPS even in ME2 - due to its ROF... i think i'm still closing my eyes and trying to believe it.)...
Balance is important -- i think the 'no nerfduck' crowd forgets that "nerfducks" are generally just people who want balance. people who want all guns to be playable. they don't just want the OP guns taken down a peg or two, they want the UP guns brought up several notches. they want to be able to look at their loadout and go "Hmm.... man.... i CANT decide..."
Thing is --- when 1 gun is very OP --- you have 1 choice of weapon for a weapon category. when half of the guns are UP -- you still have half the choices as viable weapons, ergo the nerfs are more urgent than the buffs. .
but yes - if i was the person at bioware designing these guns... i'd be at my desk every morning - first thing i'd do -- email to Fagnan and team "so uh... hey... buddy... you wanna um... you know... make that gun i lovingly crafted actually useable? c'mon it's been MONTHS"
Sniff, sniff... I think I'm gonna cry ErrorTagUnknown
Seriously thanks for the kind words. I was glad to see the Kishock, Crusader and Locust all got buffs.
As a spearfisherman, I've always had a soft spot for the Kishock... nothing like feeding the target cold hard steel shafts, and the ragdoll is just as rewarding as dropping a stone shot on a grouper/snapper.
The Crusader needed that buff bigtime. To have a weapon that is a reward for weekend challenge accomplishments be that ineffective is just bad business IMO. Glad to see a step in the right direction.
Looking forward to seeing how the Locust performs now... high velocity barrel gave SMGs a new lease on life.. and with the accuracy of the Locust it might become a half decent choice since it's so easy to headshot with.
I really like this quote from you, sums things up perfectly: Thing is --- when 1 gun is very OP --- you have 1 choice of weapon for a weapon category. when half of the guns are UP -- you still have half the choices as viable weapons, ergo the nerfs are more urgent than the buffs.

IMO the Piranha is still OP. Its damage is (arguably) OK now since you have to be very close to apply it. My main problem is its weight; it's far too light for what it does. So as well as being one of the best guns in the game, it's also the go-to gun for just about all classes.
I would suggest increasing its weight to around that of the Claymore (or maybe slightly lighter) so that caster classes would have to think twice before picking it.
I've put in alot of time on the Piranha lately... and after much usage I think it's only OP on the big three - GI, Turian Soldier and Destroyer. It would argue that it isn't even THAT OP on the Turian Soldier since it gets no damage boost from Marksman, just a significant range/ROF boost.
I too once supported a weight nerf for it... but Cyonan quickly changed my mind on that since a weight nerf would not affect it's lethality on the Big Three, it would just make every other class in the game suffer. I've been using it alot on the Krogan Vanguard on Platinum, and I gotta tell ya... I killed much more efficiently with the Reegar IMO. Unless I put the reticle right on a Hunter/Pyros face/neck, it didn't die all the quickly.. it still required me to place the shot decently, which is not all that easy to do with Prime rounds detonating on my face, Pyro flames reddening my screen, Atlas Rockets blowing up on me, etc.
The Vanguards need the Piranha IMO... it really opens up their DPS opportunities and they should be rewarded for the risks they take when charging off into combat (especially now that the risk involves being trooper stomped on all difficulties). The Big Three make almost all weapons look OP, especially the GI.
Someone had a good idea of balancing the Piranha by changing the Pellet count from 8 to 12 and lessening the damage accordingly.. so that the weapon was affected more by damage reduction from armor. I thought that was a really good idea... but as far as I'm concerned, I cannot support a weight nerf.

Hopefully they don't touch the Harrier. I don't have it yet, and everyone is using them these days so they must be good. I don't wanna miss out on all the fun.
I wouldn't worry about that. It's the most beloved gun by the community and is pretty well balanced IMO.
