How reliable is the toolset as of now (v.1.01)?

One of the reasons I didn't start using the toolset when I started off on Dragon Age was that I read several posts about the toolset being "capable" of destroying your game - if you didn't do things right, I guess.

Am now downloading v.1.01, and just wonder how reliable that is compared to v.1.00? I had the 1.00 toolset installed for some days, but suddenly ran into the "toolset cannot connect to the database" error, and decided that I would wait for a more stable version and free some disk space.

But I find making mods fun, so I thought I should try again with the updated toolset... But is it better as in more reliable now in 1.01 than it was in 1.00? E.g., does it still ruin your game if you mess up?

Also I would like some info about how the database stuff works... As I understand it, you don't create .mod files any more, but how does the database handle the resources - what are the toolset mechanics, to use such an expression - and in what way can I make small mods that adds to the OC rather than affect it negatively (again, the "toolset ruined my game" question... :innocent:)?

Welcome to DA; what was happening in the 1.00 release is that if you exported plot files, it would mess up the game because the ones included with that version were based on an older build of the game.

You may or may not still run into the database problem (it nips me every now and then), but most of the other toolset issues seem to be cleared up.

The toolset is fine now.

The OC corruption bug was fixed in toolset 1.01.

The wiki answers most of your questions - I'd start with the tutorials.

Of course, it's still possible to ruin the game if you tell the toolset to do something silly, so it's wise to keep your saves from the unmodified OC. That way, your changes aren't permanent - you can disable your mod on the in-game DLC screen, then continue play from an unmodified save.

Although modding the OC is your ultimate goal, it's safer to make a new module first, so you can play around without breaking anything.
