Ok this line blew the nuts out of my shell, "Why not make the PC canonically female" -IF THAT HAPPENS ILL nAUSEATE -snip-

I would not buy the game if the PC was canonically male.

I don't think BioWare is going to give you a canon gender. They would lose a lot of sales that way.

Uh-huh, i think Hawke was pretty male in the trailer. Hint: He is canon.Image IPB

However DA:O did not really have a canon male or female which was perfectImage IPB

Looking at Fisto's replies and Spicen's replies makes me envision one person playing with two handpuppets. I'm going to imagine them both as puppets from now on as it makes me smile. :)

lol what is going on in this thread.

I think a woman should be included in DA3 marketing, as well as a man, since the game will (or at least, it better) feature the option to play as either gender.

YES! I always left the women at camp in Dragon Age: Origins. Not Shale though, not Shale... needed a good tank.

But he's not because you could play as either gender. Miriam Hawke also had promotional pictures, even though she didn't get a trailer. Basically if Garrett Hawke had been like Geralt from The Witcher -- that would be a canon, set protagonist. You play as Geralt.

Whereas in DA2 you can play as Garrett Hawke, Miriam Hawke, or whatever Hawke you want to play as. I don't think Garrett is canon just because he was used for the trailers. That would be like saying that the Warden used in the CGI trailer is canon for DA:O, in which case he's not.

That's why you leave them at camp, obviously. What do you do for recreation after killing darkspawn and bandits and dragons all day? Image IPB

Yeah, canon genders suck. Even though I personally wouldn't be effected by a female canon, I'm still against it since it limits others. I've played Torment, so I know very well how it feels like.

Hm...they could just do trailers for both. :)

The PC is not very important in DA universe anyways. They're like...temporary and important in only that particular game. we'll probably get a new PC for every DA game (thus I'm not attached to my Hawke or Warden...My FemShep, however...that's another story)

That's what i'm hoping. Trailers for both!

That's true. I like that aspect though, because each game ends their story arc. I'm still attached to my Hawkes and Wardens, but yeah, nowhere near as much as my main FemShep. She is my favorite character ever. Haha.

However, I'm addicted to Thedas and I love having mostly new companions each game. Also, I like starting fresh. I think it works well for DA.

One thing that needs to happen is that any iconic PC character should share the same iconic colour scheme regardless of sex.

So what shade of pink should the iconic character have?

I prefer rose, but arguments could be made for amaranth, coral, magenta, cerise of shocking pink.

And what does that entail?

Good question. I'd like to know too.

I prefer an iconic male, because when Bioware tries to do an iconic female, the Femshep beauty contest happens.

And the fact the most generic design gets picked. If Iconic females are a must, then let's have one of different ethnicity.

Then, I think I'm being unfair by not giving Bioware credit for this awesomeness:

If you're going to go by the CGI trailer of all things, then the DAO one was also male. And human.

I'm not a fan of BW's marketing phrases like "iconic", which was used to shove an armor system down my throat. However, I am in favor of a great player character. If that PC happens to be female then that would be great. On the other hand I would also love to select the race of the character. I like the latter more than the former. If that is to be voiced, which I do not require but assume it will, then great voice actors/actresses can make all the difference.

I don't care much about marketing ...i mean trailer are nice , but man or woman , it's still canon Hawke and not my pc.

But I think it's important to show woman in media having the same place as men.
So yeah I think having both gender is a must .
I'm not talking from a marketing POV ( though there are tons of female players ) , more a "feminist" point of view.

I wouldn't think it would be commercially viable to have a female only protagonist on the cover.
