Ok about every 5 minutes or so the game crashes or hangs and kicks me to desktop. I am running win 7 x64 with a i5 2500k and a 7950 radeon. ALl other games work fine and my drivers are all up to date. I am also using a asus xonar dx if that matters for sound. Here is a dump file from windows task manager. I am running the game in compatibility mode for xpsp3 and as adminstrator. Also tried reinstall and DX9 install. My version of NWN2 is up to date. Any one got any ideas?

I don't think it needs to run in compatibility mode.

Well ive run it without compatibility mode and i get the same thing. Its ridiculous how bad of a developer obsidian is. They make the best RPG games yet they always have game breaking bugs like this. I mean i cant even play the game i paid for. Lovely. Shoulda pirated it.

Same Hang Type, Unreal Tournament 3.

Now Obsidian may not be the most bug free developer, but this doesn't seem to be a nwn2 specific hang.

Thats just a generic dump from task manager. Basically anything could be causing it and its not specific to that error. Most likely a memory leak in this craptastic game.

Glad to hear all those other big name games that can produce the same error message are also craptastic.
The wide variety of games that can produce this error for people should lead you to believe it's your system, not the game. The game is merely exposing a problem your system has.

Wow kamal. apparently you dont understand anything. THE error is not specific to the game. It is basically an error that appears any time a program crashes. Its not my system. Every other game i have runs perfectly. And i play ALOT of games. The problem is this buggy game. BTW i really appreciate your ideas on how to fix it. Apparently trying to say its my systems fault is your solution. Its not my system. If it was then Fallout3, Skyrim, Crysis, Crysis 2, Dota2, ME3,DA:O,DA2, and countless other games would freeze/hang. I've literally had zero problems with my system besides this one game. Which makes me think its this game.
If i were you I'd try to gain some technical knowledge before you go and post in the tech help forum,

Since the problem happens to people with all games, it is not the specific game per se. The game is exposing a problem (likely bad ram) with your system.
Or, lots of people have this problem with NWN2, because it's inherent to the game, but you are the only person in the six years the game has been out, to report it.
One of these is more likely.

Dude you dont know what your talking about. Bad Ram? i ran memtest already and its not the ram. I am the only person to report crashing in NWN2? I could google NWN2 crash and find hundreds of reports. Are you seriously saying im the only one to report crashes in nwn2? How stupid are you?
I shouldnt of even posted the task manager dump. Apparently you think it has meaning about why its crashing. It doesnt. Its a generic message from windows when any program stops responding. I dont know how many times that needs to be said for you to understand it.
If there was a problem with my system, then my system would crash in other games to. It doesnt. My system runs EVERY other game flawlessly. I am thinking NWN2 has issues with vista/windows 7. I am going to try some older video drivers and see what happens,

There are separate threads on NWN2 and Windows 7 compatibility. I have always run it in Windows XP and haven't had crashes with any greater frequency than other Windows programs.
If you start the game and just do nothing at all, does it crash after 5 minutes? Or is it crashing because of some activity you are doing every 5 minutes or so? Could it be overheating? Do you have any mods loaded into your override that might be introducing a problem? If you can provide more information about what you are doing before the crashing then maybe someone else will recognize the problem.
Or you can keep fencing with kamal, but I doubt that will help you much.
Regards

The exception code would also be useful. I did finally manage to find two other posts for the same hang type for nwn2. Something like whatishang (http://www.nirsoft.n...at_is_hang.html) or wincrashreport (same site) can read these dumps and normally identify what's causing them. But since the dump is useless, nevermind.

The problem may be that your graphics drivers are *too* up-to-date. Certainly with my Nvidia card, every time I update the drivers all my other games work a bit more smoothly, but NWN2 frequently gets worse. This might be the case with some other video card types as well.
I'm running NWN2 on a Win-7 64-bit laptop, and have had no problems with it crashing. Graphics glitches yes, but no actual crashes.

My GPU isnt overheating. Its running at 68 celcuis during NWN2. I've tried running it in compatibility mode and it still crashes. Also it wont crash if I leave the game alone. It only crashes if i play it normally. I've left it on for over a half hour and it doesnt crash. I am trying some older drivers like DannJ said so I will report back.
The game crashes in a multitude of different scenarios. Sometimes during battle, sometimes during a cutscene, sometimes just running through town. Its completely random and it happens anywhere from 5 minutes to half hour or so. I think the most I've been able to play without crashing is about 30 minutes.

Honestly - you're arguing with people here who have been using and troubleshooting NWN2 for 6 years.
I'm not all that involved now, but the pattern you just described has, over those 6 years, invariably, >99% of the time, boiled down to the load on your GPU being too high and causing it to shut down.
Your "sometimes here, sometimes there" scenario all mention times when the load on the GPU is the highest. Happened to me once and all I had to do was clear/clean my cooling on the case and the actual fan on the video card.
Keep employing the "internet message board **** but probably mild mannered IRL" approach isn't going to get you very far - and make no mistake - here is where you have access to community members who have seen it all and helped fix it all.
