If it's gay. seriously DA:O was sick, DA2 was gay, I pre-ordered it thinking I was going to get "Dragon age 2" instead I got "Gay ass game" I'm renting it this time regardless of preorder "bonuses" i didnt get any da2 dlc because i couldnt get a single play through with it remembering that zev was dead. I even replayed origins, awakening and witch hunt and reimported just to make sure. <_< so the dealbreaker would be EA rushing it and BioWare not actually putting effort into the game. so far it hasnt been announced which is good. I'd like 2+ years of dev time tbh so they can make sure it looks great, plays great, and tells a fantastic story.

If Dragon Age 2 was gay then I would become the most self hating gay ever. Seriously. Do you know what that word even means?

Dealbreakers?

Mandatory Origin install (unless EA revise the eula and tos, and provide an opt out for data collection by the client)
Multiplayer that has any effect on the single player experience

Strong disincentives?
Da2 art style
Da2-style combat animations and encounter design (ie many wimpy enemies versus dao's fewer tougher type pf encounter)

Shocked if they recurr:
Companion Equipment restrictions ala da2
Environment repetition ad nauseum

Nothing realistic would be an actual dealbreaker. I may buy it and complain about it, but I'll buy it.

Well, deal-breakers that mean no purchase ever, no matter how cheap?
Well, 1) fixed protagonist
2) Autodialogue and player lacking agency for no good reason (I will ask around about that).
I feel like I should explain 2. Sometimes player lacks agency, but it should be done properly. Like, in Awakening you can't kill Architect the first time you see him because he's far away on top of a cliff and quickly seals the cave behind him. Reasonable. In DA2 at some point you can't kill Petrice for no reason at all, other than your Hawke standing still like a retard while she walks away from a small room they're both in. Now that is infuriating.

Whether or not I enjoy the marketing and word of mouth from trustworthy friends.

I already won't buy DA3 because BioWare seem incapable of learning from their mistakes lately, as evidenced by ME3 and their overall attitude and direction lately. The only way I would buy DA3 or any future Dragon Age product is if it was the following:-
  • Lead Platform = PC
  • DAO style isometric, top-down camera returns.
  • Silent protagonist
  • At least 80 hours gameplay
  • Multiple races to choose from
  • Dialogue list returns and dialogue wheel goes
  • Art style returns to the original DAO art style and not the crappy, generic retconned DA2 with horse-faced elves, comic Darkspawn, etc.
  • Proper tactical gameplay and not over-the-top hack'n'slash BS with magic-spawning enemies, etc.
But I'd seriously doubt we're even going to get one of these factors, let alone all of them. Dragon Age 2 killed the Dragon Age IP for me, and the only way it'll come back is if BioWare turn their back on that garbage entirely and get back to Dragon Age's roots. But they won't... they're too busy pandering to the masses and letting cinematic flow get in the way of the roleplaying elements instead of making proper RPGs. It's pretty damn clear BioWare just wants to make cinematic, story-driven action games with light RPG elements rather than proper RPGs now. In just a few years Dragon Age will be no more RPG than Darksiders or God of War.
