He asked about realism. The Alliance is quite obviously based off the US/British militaries.Greylycantrope wrote...

Of course Shepard is canonically male.
Liara is the canon LI
Soldier is the canon class
People choose male Shepard? Really?
If they want some sense of realism, yes.
And the vast majority apparently do.
And why it is more real than choosing FemShep?
I was joking, cause realism...in the future...in spaceTealjaker94 wrote...

I'm not saying that it's unrealistic based on Alliance standards. It's unrealistic by today's standards is what Twilight God is trying to say. I personally have no problem with it.erilben wrote...

Ashley is infantry. You can't avoid getting Ashley.
I got you. I'm tired.Greylycantrope wrote...

There isn't a canon Shepard.
Sheploo and the basic Fem!Shep are simply defaults, nothing more.
actually male shep is pretty much cannon. Even the mass effect movie is using male shep

That would be the computer-generated composite image that Vega mentions they replaced Shepard's actual image with on the recruiting posters.Ledgend1221 wrote...

If thats the case then some people wouldn't have complained about the story elements that Bioware chose throughout the ME series.Taboo-XX wrote...
There is no canon pertaining to certain things. Like whether Shepard is male or female. Or who the LI was.
That's why the books and comics are written the way they are.
There is no canon in that regard.

The difference is people here have done their homework. You have not. Yet you struggle with them without having any leg to stand on. Don't let me stop you tho. It's been a facinating read.

Post a link because this still isn't evidence because quotes are normally altered on BSN.Greylycantrope wrote...
Page 6-7 Retribution:
"Commander Shepard had discovered that human colonists were being abducted by the Collectors, a reclusive species that served the will of the Reapers without question. "
"Shepard-with Cerberus's help-had destroyed the Collector operations."
"The plan to replicate the Collector experiments would progress in secret, without Shepard's knowledge or involvement. The alliance between Cerberus and humanity's most famus hero had been uneasy at best; neither side had fully trusted the other. It was possible they might together again in the future, but for now the Illusive Man was only willing to rely on his own top agents."
No gender specified, now provide specific pages where Shepard is referred to as a male in either book or conceed the point.

He won't. People asked him to do that and he deflected like a troll would. He's trolling. He'll say something like "No you have to show me a page" even though he was the one who brought that to the conversation.
Every military branch has women in them while the men still vastly outnumber the women. The Angry One wrote...
And the Alliance has female marines no matter what your choice. Ashley and Nerali Bhatia being two of them.
So again, you have no point.
Yet you assume that I have an issue, which I don't, even when I only play as a FemShep and killed Kaidan. The Angry One wrote...
If you have an issue with a soldier not having male genetalia, then by all means play a man and never bring along Ashley.
Canon is everywhere throughout the ME series while that happens in most RPGs like Fallout, the Elder Scrolls, the Witcher, DA, KotOR, Neverwinter, Persona, and .Hack. The list can go on and on whether we're talking about Western or Eastern based RPGs.The Angry One wrote...
But don't try and impose your personal canon on the rest of us. Yes I know you're trolling, but others seem to actually believe this.
