No offense... But that's a horrible analogy. You're not "ordering chicken" for a friend, you're forcing all life in the galaxy to accept this "upgrade."

Anology quality is meh, but I was hungry and thinking about food.  Point still stands though...making a choice for someone one time does not make that person into a slave or a drone.

EDI: Do you think I should make modifications?

Paragon Shepard: Only you can answer that question. That's the point of free will.

I agree that Synthesis violates free will by forcing it on everyone. However, the claim that Synthesis removes free will isn't fact.

well, if synthesis violated free will by it's inception, then it does remove some free will.

but... war does that in any event, or no body could consider any war a 'win'. It is a  trade off, synthesis, not a take over bid, like many detractors insist. They just want reaper goo slathered about to save their honor. Instead, Legion wears a chunk of Sheps armor for some reason, he cannot, yet, comprehend. . . . . and Edi needs Jokers arms for reassurance she's capable of doing a 'right' thing..

seems like some sort of evil take over code tho... (sarcasm alert.)

I can understand the argument that Synthesis violates free will. I don't think it's a huge issue, since all endings do that to some extent, but it's a valid argument nonetheless.

Shepard: "The Illusive Man talked about controlling the Reapers. He seemed to think that's how we win this."
Hackett: "He's wrong. Dead Reapers are how we win this."

Hackett: "Utilized in the right fashion, our scientists are convinced it can generate enough energy to destroy the reapers."

That's a pleasant realization, not an order.. it's like that all over the game, Hackett is kind of wishy washy..er..not prone to commitment..well, you see my point tho?

Nope I see it as a general order. You are chosen by Hackett to do this mission with the understanding you will kill the reapers he even says its why he chose you.

I find it strange that nobody I'm aware of ever proposed the idea of negotiating peace. Fruitless, yes, but there's always someone out there that thinks it's a good idea.

Joker advocated teaching the reapers to love.

ahh, the 'general order'. Now that I can understand, but it's still not 'the' orders. Shep has those to invoke at his leasure. That is "the orders". IF it entails destroying reapears to 'end the conflict' and 'stop the harvest/reaper threat', the sure, but.. not just 'destroy'.

And of course it's his choice, but not the first choice, if it doesn't complete the mission. Shepard has to decide on what that will take to accomplish. Shep has more rank than Hackett, apparently...

You can have a conversation with EDI on this...

EDI: Admiral Anderson reports that the Reapers on Earth are broadcasting orders. They are demanding human leaders enter their super structures in order to negotiate peace.

Shepard: Anybody aboard a Reaper is going to be indoctrinated.

EDI: Exactly. This is a ruse to pacify the populace during that process. Citizens who are busy waiting are not busy fighting. It is likely that the governments of Earth will soon enact laws punishing those who attack the Reaper occupiers. Again, this will be done in the name of peace.

Hackett says he chose Shepard because he is the only on that can KILL reapers. Where is the misunderstanding in that?

If you don''t kill them you're not only a ****ty Human you are a terrible Solider.

I don't understand how anyone can like Synthesis. Just watching that husk awaken with the Alliance soldiers next to him is horrifying. And then to see everyone you've known for years, have that weird circuit glow thing going on. Ugh!

well, they did promote reaper tech and decided to squat on reaper citadel, for the ease of use..then messed around and fell across sentient/sapient life in the form of synthetics. Made the catalyst to control it and donated their bodies to computer science...but they didn't ask for it, they just 'took' it.. hell'of'anote.

I mean non-reapers. Like that boob early in the game.. 'That's it, that's your plan?'. Not one clueless person said something like.. 'Maybe we can reason with them...'. I'm just a bit surprised.

For me the trouble with Synthesis is not that it's inevitable. It's that what comes afterward is BORING.

that's the problems with the reapers/catalyst, they've nothing to reason with, only their core program: There is NO WAR, only THE HARVEST.

it would be easier to convince synthesis objectionists to pipe down with the holier than thou rants..lol

Ah, well that's close enough I suppose.
