Im just going to come on out and say people who use wireless while gaming bug the heck out of me. This game is for the PC. Desktop or go home.

Console doesn't mean wireless. I play on ps3 with a wired connection and I don't have any problems.

I didn't mean to insinuate. I meant usually people who play PC are more concerned about optimal hardware, software, and network configuration. I used to help on the PS3 and 360 forums and you have no idea how many people just take the new 360 with built in wireless and connect to some random wifi near by.

I have freakin' High-Speed, yet I have terribad internets.

Reasons Why High Speed Internet Connection Can Be Slowed Down:

[*]DSL speeds are affected by the network’s location.  The further
from the central office of the telephone company you are, the slower
your connection will be.  [*]Some modems, particularly inexpensive models and internal modems,
can only handle certain speeds of data transfer, limiting the speed of
the connection, regardless of the speed your high speed
service can provide.
[*]Cable internet services share bandwidth with satelite Internet
access.  If there are many subscribers using that same bandwidth, it
can slow down the connection.  [*]Some older homes that use outdated telephone wires may be the cause
of a slow Internet connection, as they can sometimes be limited to a
33.6 Kbps speed.  [/list]Source: www.broadbandinfo.com

Most of those are for DSL. Cable uses whats called DOCSIS where the performance can, but not always, can be dependent on your signal levels. Usually going to 192.168.100.1 will show you signal levels unless its locked in the modem's firmware. To that end, even a DOCSIS 2.0 modem can handle up to 24Mb on the up and down. Thats the technical cap, but usually most ISP don't offer anything abovr 3-5 on upload. Also..how does cable internet share with satellite? That doesn't make any sense.

Connecting to even your own broadband connection wirelessly is likely going to cause problems with the EA servers. People just don't get it. They think just because nothing else reacts to the same thing the EA servers do, then it can't possibly be anything to do with their connection.

edit: To clarify, I am agreeing with you.

Well alot of it is in the router's configuration. UPnP is not perfect, specially since there are so many ways the servers can be set up. But alot of it has to do with the servers are just overworked. Since they are trying to squeeze profit margins every dollar they put into servers is one less they make. Which means they use hardware that is just baily capable. Very little overhead allowed. Then latency issues usually at the 4-5 hop can cause issues. Then issues outside your ISP can cause problems. Long story short, since so much of it is out of your control, its best to make sure that which is in your control is perfect. Its like a baseball player. You think a good bat makes a bad player good? No. But do you ever see a Pro using a bad bat? No. Don't have your PC and network be the bad bat if you consider yourself a pro gamer. Learn that stuff :-)

And yes, we both agree, but I like discussion.

Yea, your probably 15/2.5. With your Upload that high, probably means they have a 1Ghz plant. Long story short, it means a upgrade to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem might help.

It's been pretty bad for the past few weeks, but when I get a new modem next week it should be better.

And yet I still get consistent and random disconnect messages, such that I cannot play multiplayer no matter how hard I try (http://social.biowar...ndex/13685980/5). EA is the worst.

These are my test results using the same wired connection I use on my PS3. I very rarely get any disconnects or lag.

Live in Sheffield, UK.  Upgraded from TalkTalk last month.  The random disconnects are still there though!

i dont know why people here considering lower ping in speed test result is a good thing. <_<
this ping is measured between you and the test server. perhaps you can get 8 ms ping here. but whenever you play with someone and you are not the host, that means you can also get a ping like 300 ms.

Yeah and you have no idea with regard to this.  I wish they would improve the lobby and offer similar to other games where you can see games, ping rates etc.

btw Pretatta, just read this again and I don't mean you personally have no idea.  Realise it might come across like this.  Half asleep when I typed it.  I meant when you are Joining games in the lobby there is no visible means of choosing a server based on ping time or locality as others allow you to do.

It's not infallible, but it's a reasonable indicator of what you can expect on average. Lower is better. If you get 60+ to a server like 50 KM away from you, you can bet you're going to have it even worse to servers further away.

And so on...

I have to admit that I'm generally pretty happy with my ISP. Can't wait for when the National Fiber-Optic Broadband Network finally comes to my suburb though. :D

Depressingly THIS is my work connection (and people wonder why I prefer to work from home when I can):
