I think fem shep is better. Her voice acting is much better (in my opinion) I liked that it sounded like it had more emotion in it. Male shep voice is more monotone kinda (not explaining it right probably). But I like them both but I just love fem shep (and I an a guy).

I can put this as simply as possible.

It feels, to me, like I'm missing out 50% of the game.

Plus, its fun to see the game through the eyes of a female character.

I have femSheps and maleSheps and I like them both for different reasons. I like Meer for his matter-of-fact "Bondian" disconnected performance. He's there to do a job and maybe get laid, but not much else. I like Hale because she brings a human factor to the game that is sorely lacking in most video games.

I prefer a Strong Independent Woman lead to a generic Buzz cut Soldier. I just find female Shepard refreshing and different from how females are usually portrayed in a sci fi setting,

But then again, I am gay. So maybe I find female charcters easier to relate with? I'm not very feminine though so that would be weird.

Besides, my femShep only romances Liara, Kelly, and Traynor (But mostly Liara).

I'm female...tried Broshep in ME1 and had to stop half-way through Eden Prime because of the disconnection I was having with the character. Played Femshep ever since.

Plus the femshep/liara relationship is soooooo sweet.

The vast majority of gamers who mod femshep's clothing are women. In fact all the "sexy" mods I have seen were made by girl gamers.  Mods typically come from curosity, "to see if it can be done" or disatisfaction w/ the clothes/armor choices.  As for running Shepard around in her/his underwear, it's mostly for the LOLs.

I prefer the feel of the female character. She seemed to fit the story more comfortably.
I suspect more people play FemShep these days.

I enjoy playing games that gives a chance to be someone or something that I can't be in real life, I can't be a female space marine in real life, but I can be one in the Mass Effect trilogy. 

Also I love Jennifer Hale's voice.

Because kickass women are awesome. And we hardly have any non-sexualized/skimpy-outfitted, take-charge women protagonists in games.

I strongly suspect that the people who ask this question are mostly teenaged boys who feel VERY insecure in their masculinity, and cannot wrap their head around the idea that playing a character of the opposite sex in a video game says absolutely NOTHING about either your gender identity or your sexual orientation.

And you would be mistaken in my case. My curiosity as to why males play as femshep was related to content, as in, is there more? I'm male and always play male in my games just out of habit, not any conscious thought. to me, my games are extension of myself just as my cars, motorcycles etc etc are. Meaning, I like satin or flat black with red accents and I like my ole cars to have a particular stance and look, or my 1911s to have extended and ported match barrels, tactical rails, extended mags and saerated slides, or my sorrel gelding to have a certain color leather headstall or why all my friends choose to ride Gixers, CBRs, ZX's and i chose Ducati 996 blah blah blah they are, in short, an extension of my personality, not everyone will like the look but thats the beauty of diversity and choice. 
My curiosity wasn't intended to offend anyone, it was merely curiosity . 
I respect strong female characters, always have, and, for example, I'm a fan of the Alien series (1 and 2 more so) but Sig was a sci fi bad ****
