Why do people play FemShep?

But seriously superior voice acting for a main character, I play female characters when the option is available to me being a girl gamer and all. Playing as a Broshep doesn't appeal to me, I can't relate or feel any connection to him. Femshep is a rarity in the gaming world, a realistic appealing strong protagonist one that isn't just some vamped up TnA. And another plus Femshep reminds me of Ellen Ripley that's pure win right there.

Simple Shepard is Femshep you couldn't expect a man to multi-task like that.
You should try to look at the customer support department. Plenty of multi-tasking men there. (almost no females, though... I wonder why...(I'll answer that because I've seen it first hand one too many times: most women can't stand the pressure of the job and quit in the first 6 months.)

The same here.
I enjoy playing games that gives a chance to be someone or something that I can't be in real life, I can't be a female space marine in real life, but I can be one in the Mass Effect trilogy.
Also I love Jennifer Hale's voice.![]()
I am a female space marine who saved the galaxy, but I also enjoy playing as one in videogames.

The incredible things is... all tests done to prove the women are multi-tasks were made in kitchen. Where women are supose to be and is expected to do their job well done at least. This is a rhetoric test. Who needs a woman mono-task in the house? Imagine the mess...

I call it the man-rag. But yes, there are days when I wake up in an inexplicable bad mood.
As to the OP's question. My most recent playthrough, and the first time I played 3, I was a FemShep. Not for any particular reason, I just thought it wold be interesting to go through as a female.

Also, femshep is one of my favourite female characters in video games and fiction in general because she's written from a gender-neutral perspective (like Ripley from Alien). I'm tired of female character in multiple forms of media having the simple fact that they are female be their one defining characteristic.
I have played as broshep though, for variety mostly but also because it was easier for me to play full renegade as one. Playing as male characters is no less comfortable for me (I'm often forced to anyways) and it's easier for me to roleplay as bad guys when I'm playing the opposite sex. And that is for the fact that it's less immersive, so playing as a man so the bad-guy choices don't leave me feeling as guiltly as when I play as a girl.
I'm sure everyone has different reasons for playing the opposite gender, what it all comes down to is a matter of preference, no need to justify it. Although I have to admit it that when I hear guys saying they do it just to "look at femshep's butt" or do lesbian romances, it comes off as really creepy. I certainly never ogled sheploo's butt or made him romance Kaidan/Cortez when I played as him. But like I just said, it's about preferences, they don't need to justify it.

Everyone has a different one they prefer. I just felt that Shep was probably one of the best female leads in a long time. And I'm with CrimsonN7: she does remind me of Ellen Ripley in a lot of ways.

1) I like her voice acting better
2) If im gonna spend 20+ hours, playing through all three games, I might as well be looking at a woman
1) Matter of opinion. Personally, I think Hale is a ****** poor female version of David Caruso.
2) That's a lame reasoning. You can play male Shepard and look at Miranda.

1) In third person RPG''s games your eyes should rarely be on the character but rather the surroundings and action.
2) You would pass up the chance to actually pursue an in-game relationship with a woman (other than liara) to stare at a chicks "Fully Armoured" ass. Sounds very introverted.
3) Are you SERIOUSLY staring at Shepards ass for 3 games? That says more about you than I ever could.
All the other reasons are passable (voice acting, different experience) but it seems like anyone who says this is trying to sound manly by saying they wanna stare at a chicks ass when really it comes off as a convenient, ****** poor excuse. That's like saying you'll pass up watching The Expendables 2 to go watch Blue Crush because it has hot chicks in it. C'mon man.
If you wanna be a girl, just say it. Quit making up Bulls**t excuses and admit it.
