Message of this thread: if the Bioware employees all paid their mortgages, we'd have perfect games.

Sadly, it is the necessity to pay said mortgages that are the cause of most of game development's problems.

Y'all have wandered off the point of multi pony being unwanted by the OP to managing other people's mortgages.

Amazing.

But didn't you read?  People with unpaid mortgages obviously don't know a thing about resource management.  This is relevant.

Fun Trivia:  Few who has ever been "Strawman'd" by me has ever admitted or acknowledged that they even know what it is, let alone having done it.

It's also hardly an exclusive club.

Also every single person who has been, clearly was.  It's one of the more transparent go-to moves for people who have weak arguments.

In any case, that's off topic.  The topic being multiplayer and the relative support people have for it.  I've never participated in the multiplayer of a BioWare game outside of SWTOR, so its presence is basically a nonfactor for me.  If it looks fun I'll give it a shot, but I don't think its alleged presence in any given game is responsible for the host of things SpunkyMonkey reliigiously believes it is.

I bet you miss CoS Sarah Jinstar.

I do. She was a riot.

I suspect your keyboard (specifically the CTRL, C and V buttons) might be glad she's gone, though.

(FWIW, I agree with you re: topic)

Did someone mention ponies?

According to Wikipedia, that's actually only for the Brits--not that entire side of the Atlantic.

You are all alone.

I've played MP in BG1, BG2, NWN, SWTOR, and ME3. They were all reasonably good experiences, though the BG multiplayer was pretty primitive for the time... the lack of an in game method of communication meant that you really could only play the way I did (in the same room).

The squad-based nature of most of Bioware's games actually lends itself pretty well to co-op from a top-down design perspective. You might still have to have a single main 'hero' to drive the story, but I never felt like that was a problem when playing Baldur's Gate or Secret of Mana (another memorable and fun co-op multiplayer RPG).

At any rate: I happened to enjoy ME3's MP quite a bit. The ending was questionable at best, but it was not as if they ran out of money to write the script because of the MP. Go ahead and criticize the ending all you like, but give credit where credit is due instead of imagining the bad evil multiplayer boogeyman came out of your closet and stole your good ending. I repeat: it doesn't work like that at all.

I'd add Commandos 2 to that list -not an RPG, but its co-op worked the same way that BG's and SoM's did. If something has changed in coop MP, is the move from LAN to internet. That might be detrimental to the MP experience, but still doesn't affect the SP experience.

Anyone that uses the ending of ME3 as an excuse to dislike MP is grasping their straws so tight it's ridiculous.

Just making an observation here - people who are either pro-multiplayer or even ambiguous about MP being in there games are clicking on this thread. Contrary to its title.

You just can't trust the BSN to follow instructions, can you?

Before the launch of DA2 there was some controversy over the extra content included in preorders of the game.  BioWare positioned this as a reward to loyal fans, and some fans agreed, others felt like they were being set up.

There ended up being two threads discussing the issue.  One was ostensibly for supporters, the other for critics.

By the end of the first page of each, both threads had exactly the same people posting exactly the same arguments in them.

You've convinced me, I've no fear at all of any further Bioware games being skimped on because they're being geared up for the sole purpose of making money, with the creative/story aspects taking more of a backseat in favour of more "easily profitable" endevours.

I was silly to worry really.

Game developers want to make money?

... Shocking.

ME3's ending, and Bioware's admirable stand against the countless people hating on them right here for it, is proof that that is completely false.

So... paying off the mortgage through profitable business is only cool when SpunkyMonkey does it.

The part you're missing, and it's a huge part, is that multiplayer wouldn't be profitable if a lot of people didn't really enjoy it.

On what planet is including a popular, profitable, gameplay option evidence of bad business management?  Oh, the one where you're just not personally interested in the option, I guess.  That changes everything!  For everyone!

Shut down those hideously popular Mass Effect 3 Operations, people.  Someone on the internet is getting worried.

Yeah.....but I'm not the one who said "You're all alone" as in "There's 1 of you who uses that term"
