@The illusiveman11: Did she? I had a straight modded romance with Liara to experiment (only played the lesbian one) but after I had the date with Kaidan she just went into the friendship path without mentioning him at all and I didn't even breakup with her before the coup. Did I do something wrong?

Yeah, she was not happy at all. She told me she didn't have time for games.

I haven't actually pursued either of them, but from the cutscenes I've watched, I would say Steve.

Though it could be my bias talking, since I like Steve far more than Kaidan.

Kaidan. I watched Steve's romance on youtube and thought the transition from mourning his husband to being open to Shep's advances was particularly jarring.

@mitochan: Whatever makes you sleep better. I have my opinion you have yours, period.
I'm just glad not every straight woman thinks like you irl, since I'd be forced to be with men only thoughout my whole life.
Btw, I have stated several times (in this thread and others) I'm a BISEXUAL man, married to an exceptional woman who loves me as I am, and no, that doesn't make me straight...ever.

PS: My wife says straight men can't compare with us in bed, so your loss if you don't try lol.

Your wife probably loves you, good for you (this is not an ironic comment).
You seem to have missed my point though. We're not talking about RL, we're talking about a video game character.

We certainly have different opinions - personally i tend to try hard to express mine without offending people, even then, i sometimes fail. Some of the things you wrote sounded somewhat tactless or undiplomatic to me, but you seem unaware of that. On a side note, I'll most willingly confess that i am touchy to anything Kaidan related.

I don't know why you're dragging bi vs straight guy sexual abilities to please women into this dicussion, nor why you're saying i would make you gay forever if I was the only kind of women left in the Galaxy (joking here) - i was talking about Kaidan Alenko here. Me wanting Kaidan to be straight makes him straight, definitely. Kaidan is the product of each individual's fantasy.

Every single Kaidanite I've met here knows a different Kaidan, discussing which is more official canon is pointless, especially since BW is apparently willing to maintain speculations or lack of canon on this subject and others. As I said, the video game character named Kaidan Alenko from ME1 is straight, asexual in ME2, and I-have-no-idea-whatsoever in ME3.

I just gave up on answering that question long ago to focus on discussing all the very lovely aspects of his personality and looks. Be he gay, straight, bi, Shepard-sexual, whatever.

I have to say that the Kaidan romance gets my vote.

For one, and this is not to deminish Steve's contributions, but Kaidan gets to be out there on the battlefield with Shepard. I like the back-to-back badasses in love imagery a little too much to not prefer to have my LI out there, fighting alongside me.

The second is that it's a relationship that's built up over the course of three games, and it's a style that I don't experience that often, with the first game being the awkward dance of trying to get to a place of maybe taking that next step, the second game being the hurt of loss, and the third game being finally able to take that leap. It feels like it has a deeper resonance through the experiences that they go through to get to where they'll have a relationship.

And then the third is that with Steve's relationship, it feels too much like Shepard's swooping in on the man in mourning for me to be completely comfortable with it. I've never liked the 'help me move past my ex's tragic death and teach me to love again' style of romance, because it turns the new party into almost a predatory figure. Characterwise, I think it's better to help him get to a point where he is willing to live again, not to love again.

Ethically, I just cannot deal with romancing Steve just for him to lose yet another guy again... and both within a few months.

Kaidan times a million. Steve's was nice but wasn't given proper time to develop. I also liked that kaidans felt less like it was about him being the gay/bisexual character and more about him growing to love Shepard over the course of the series. Not to mention I just find him to be the most attractive bunch of pixels to ever grace the screen.

I honestly didn't like Steve. It felt like every time I went to chat with him, he had to remind me that he's gay. It got annoying.
The Kaidan one I did by accident. We were chatting at the Apollo Cafe and next thing I knew Liara was telling me that I shacked up with him or something. It was well thought out though. Believable.

I actually cringe a little at the scene where you witness Steve crying listening to the recording of Robert right in the middle of the armoury. It was just a bit too much. Totally shaking bait for haters and just nothing subtle/elegant in that moment.

If that scene took place with him listening to it in private off-duty in an empty corridor/room or something, I could have taken it a bit more seriously. It would have been a more poigniant moment for me. Whereas now I just think, "Wtf, commanding officer on board, back to work lieutenant". =|

Honestly, I would have liked to have seen Steve (and Sam, too, but Steve's the one in the subject title) move around the Normandy more. Move that scene to the crew quarters, or even to the Life Support room, where no one seems to go, it's more of a private moment. The fact that the recording plays at full blare so the entire shuttle bay is able to hear him listening to his husband's last moments... yeah, that does bug a little.

I cringed also. It just felt artificial.

With Kaidan, it felt more like... "I had a near death experience. I'm accepting myself, let's bang." Which was better than Steve's, "Wahhhh. Forcing my sad sappy self on you."
