I've never played HOMMIV. I've played II (Gold Edition), III and V. Though I have seen a screenshot or two of IV, in a game magazine.

Lots of other games I play frequently, Neverwinter 1, Baldur's Gate Trilogy, Kotor 1&2, Wing Commander 5, Civilization 4, Conquest of the New World, Freelancer, Jade Empire, and Dragon Age Origins and Awakening (heavily modded) but I think those above are my top 5 overall. Top 5 is too hard, I've been gaming for 28 years or so.

There is also one game that I would like to put as special mention, and the only reason it isn't on my list is that it is relatively new... it's based on an aged engine (Freespace 2... somewhat modded), and it's free. Wing Commander Saga. It is by far the most impressive "labor-of-love" typed game I've ever played. The cutscenes are nothing as flashy as Mass Effect, but the writing, and the gameplay, is very, very, well done.

Other games I might have put on the list would include the Baldur's Gate series, the original Dragon Age: Origins, Mechwarrior 4 series, Jane's F/A-18 and F-15. Only because I like'em

Oh good list, GoG brought me all of those Adventure games, Syberia 1 & 2 are so great,  so is Broken Sword and the Longest Journey. Love them all.  Old School quick strategy Warlords 1 & 2.

Never was into strategies meself (I understand their appeal, they're just not for me, I prefer to get connected to a couple of characters who have a larger story). TLJ is probably my favourite game of all time. Shame about the third part (Dreamfall Chapters), probably not going to happen... But then again, ME3 didn't happen either as far as I'm concerned

Ever play the original, Tecmo's Deception? Or Trapt for the PS2? While I couldn't get into Trapt for some reason, I loved Tecmo's Deception. I was actually introduced to the series by a demo disc that came with a Playstation magazine. That horribly translated demo of Kagero got me hooked.

I never did beat Kagero... the intruders started getting wise to my standard trap routine. I did beat Tecmo's Deception, though. The monster creation feature was a great help there. Check it out if you haven't played it...if you can find it... and can still stomach PS1 graphics.

Yes, it was called Devil's deception here in the UK (where one magazine claimed it was one of the worst PS1 games ..but they also said it was a resident evil clone,,,so clearly had no idea what they were talking about and the same could be said of the magazine that described it as a platform game) - I enjoyed it and played to the end, also played Trapt to the end (unfortunately, the 3rd game Dark Delusion never made it over here).  
The building rooms and corridors as places for my traps and collecting bodies to create monsters was good fun but I prefer the more sophisticate mixture of traps and fixed hazards in Kagero.

I did get stuck on Kagero for a while due to one level with too many would be intruders queing up to attack and a bomb I had to keep them wasy from and I kept making the same mistake of killing the cowardly wimp as soon as possible...eventually figured out the trick was to not kill him but beat him to the bomb room and kill the other enemies one at a time saving him for when the other queue was completely exhausted

This sounds incredibly familiar. This may in fact be where I quit. 

...but not this time. Yup, I dug out my PS1 and started playing last night, naming my character "Astarte" for extra monies. Love the early levels... spring floor into fireplace! Actually, spring floor into anything. 

Love spring floor. Don't like intruders that evade it.  

Currently on chapter 9, miss the old 4-room castle already.
