Hey RC, another question from me XD.

I was wondering if you tested out Concussive shot with cryo ammo amplification and the shatter evo(5th tier) on CS (which supposedly deals a huge amount of damage to frozen targets). I tried this and kept on spammin CS with cryo amplification, but was unsuccesful (or at least haven't seen any damage difference) with the shatter evo? Is this bugged, or am I just not seeing the damage?

No idea. I rarely use Cryo Ammo on Shepard, since it is much better on squadmates. I can test it out, see what happens.

You aren't going to chain Cryo Explosions that way if that is what you were attempting sirus.

Shatter just does increased damage to frozen targets. It doesn't guarantee a shatter or a Cryo Explosion.

Amplified Conc is decent with inferno ammo. I know its strange to read something like that, but when you master how to use it, it just takes down 3-6 health bars per detonation oO sp mode

This^

On Insanity

Incendiary Ammo (Rank 6 Explosive Burst) > Amplified Concussive Shot > Harrier = Brutes killed with one clip in like 5 seconds.

Seriously try it fire half a clip at the Brute - Concussive Shot and then explosion. Finsh your clip and Consussive shot - another explosion and bye bye brute.

In fact the only thing that can cause me bother on Insanity with this setup is multiple Banshees.

For this reason alone concussive shot amplification is totally worth it.

Or since Brutes are only armor, you can completely cheese it with just chained Fire Explosions by only spamming Concussive Shot at them ;)

Right. But my question was about the increased damage. When I tried it, I didn't see the huge amount of damage it is supposed to give. I was also spamming CS a bunch with the cryo amplification. Not sure if I needed to shoot them first with weapons to freeze them, then CS.

Okay, I tested this myself. I used Cryo Ammo specced for Freeze Duration, Ammo Capacity, Freeze Chance; This is so Cryo Ammo itself does not give any extra damage bonuses so hopefully I can see the difference in Concussive Shot easier. Nothing in passive or bonus power, took all health and shield bonuses in Fitness.

Tested against Cerberus on N7: Communications Hub.

Test 1: Concussive Shot specced for Damage, Recharge Speed, Amplification.
Test 2: Concussive Shot specced for Damage, Shatter, Amplification

Using just Concussive Shot against Cerberus Troopers, both tests seemed the same, namely that it took 3 Concussive Shots to freeze and kill most Cerberus Troopers. Sometimes it took 4 C-shots, sometimes it took 2 C-shots.

I also took the Viper and tried shooting (freeze in one shot) then hitting the enemies with Concussive Shot, but it always took one Concussive Shot to kill a frozen enemy. Switched rank 6 Amplification to Shredder for these tests.

Not really sure why they are the same. It may have to do with the increased base damage of Concussive Shot since patch 1.05, or maybe it is how Amplification interacts with Cryo Ammo that prevents differences.

It sounds like maybe the troopers weren't fully frozen sometimes. Or at least that is a possibility.

Information courtesy of Athenau from Concussive Shot Amplification gets multipliers against protections.
  • By default, Concussive Shot already has a 4x damage multiplier against barriers (source). This multiplier also does not change when amplified with any other ammo power, including Warp Ammo; the damage multiplier remains at 4x against barriers.
  • Concussive Shot amplified with Warp Ammo gains a 4x damage multiplier against armor.
  • Concussive Shot amplified with Incendiary Ammo gains a 4x damage multiplier against armor.
  • Concussive Shot amplified with Disruptor Ammo gains a 4x damage multiplier against shields.

Bump...

So does Amplified CS count as a Rank 1 or Rank 6 power for the purpose of combo damage formula (that is for the priming part, not the detonation which is likely Rank 6)? Does anyone know the answer? Or does it depend on rank of the ammo power used to amplify?

Also looking through old threads, the reason Incendiary amplified CS apparently can chain detonate FE's is that it applies a new DOT tick to armor each time... unlike simply firing more with a gun that has IA.

edit:

actually I guess I am going to just assume it is actually treating it as a Rank 6 primer, at least based on Red's video in first post of chain detonating on Atlas (although this is a rough estimate)... or it is taking the Rank 6 ammo power as the primer...

Atlas (Insanity)
11250-16875 armor
Lvl 57 - approx 16684 armor?
1 bar dmg - ~1668.4dmg (very rough estimate, no accounting for DOT or other damage)

Combo:
Insanity diff - 3.375x
FE Armor - 2x
Base: 100-250

100 * (1 + (combo level - 2) * 0.15) * difficulty scaling * combo damage bonus = 1668

100*(1+ (X - 2)*0.15)*3.375*2 = 1668

(1+ (X - 2)*0.15)*6.75 = 16.68

1+ (X - 2)*0.15 = 2.47

(X-2)*0.15 = 1.47

X-2= 9.8

X = ~ 11.8 -> pretty close to 12

Reviving this thread briefly to add some tests.

YouTube user Robson Waterkemper (http://www.youtube.c...bsonwaterkemper) mentioned to me that while Concussive Shot amplified with Cryo Ammo will freeze unprotected enemies, it will not prime them for cryo explosions. So I tried it out. The results of this video show that it does indeed prime for cryo explosions.

Now, for enemies to be primed for a Cryo explosion, they need to be fully frozen (except in multiplayer with Snap Freeze)*. Concussive Shot amplified with Cryo Ammo can take a loooooong time to freeze enemies.

* It should be noted that there is a brief window when enemies are first being frozen that they can be detonated for a cryo explosion, because reasons.

Test 1. You can see that the results are erratic. This is because sometimes enemies are completely frozen when I try to detonate them, while other times they are merely chilled as they are in the process of being frozen.

Test 2. In this test, you can clearly see that enemies will indeed cryo-explode after fully frozen by Concussive Shot amplified with Cryo Ammo. You can also see that it can take a long time for enemies to be frozen. At least one guy even manages to shoot at me while he is being frozen.
