Because it presents a problem which isn't the problem in a first place and your protagonist is supposed to pick one of its designed solutions (post-Crucible or pre-Cruble, it doesn't matter). It's like saying that a man and a woman always think differently and have dispuses and the inbalance of such relationship is inevitable, so it has to be solved with vigour.

The very idea is absurd.

Just seems like agreeing with the enemy that has been destroying us it is just something I can not do

The catalyst is a poorly written program run amok. The problem with the catalyst is that introducing him to Shepard in the last 10 minutes of the game is just really poor story telling. The fight to get to him was anti-climatic enough. Then you find out that he is the real wizard of OZ and BW expects you to believe the 3 options he presents to you with no alternatives. He is just an AI the player should be able to disable the catalyst by turning off or destroying his power source.

Obviously part of the reason that bioware put the catalyst in the story was to be able to answer the players questions. Because the character turns out to be the real antagonist his options and answers are unbelievable and the player is left with no alternatives.

LOL, keep pulling strings and twisting interpretation to make the catalyst fit for you. It still doesn't make sense on itself and doesn't belong in Mass Effect.

It's like hearing someone try to prove that 2+2=7
"But if the second 2's variable is 5 it DOES make sense!"

The Catalyst? Isn't he just a hallucination brought on by excessive medi-gel usage and the ending is just Shepard tripping? The army medics say medi-gel is safe if used responsibly, but Shepard must have gone through a years supply to get up after Harby shot him.
