Do you think DA3 is Bioware's last chance to keep the fans of their older games interested?

You realize that makes absolutely no sense right?  There's no correlation between military service and what you want to discount as "Rumors, conjecture, polls,  etc".

Which you then turned around,  and accepted rumors and conjecture from EA as fact.  There's no magic connection between EA's games and EA that lets them know when a copy is sold,  they don't have any idea how many copies were sold on the first day yet.  Further,  you ignored the fact that EA likes to use the words "Shipped" and "Sold" interchangeably,  and I'll bet alot of money the real press release said "Shipped 900k units",  because the gaming press always chooses to translate the word "Shipped" as "Sold".

So I'm a little fuzzy on why you're trying to discount verifiable events as "Rumors and conjecture" and then accept "Rumors and conjecture" if it has the letters EA in the sentence.

I'm also really confused why you'd bother trying to claim 900k as a positive when EA has already said Dead Space 3 isn't worth continuing if it doesn't sell 5 million.  Logically,  900k is abyssmal if 5 million is the required target.

The military was filled with rumors and 'scuttlebutt' during my time in service, and in that time only a single tale turned true. While this was only my experience, it has helped form additional skepticism against specualtion and conjecture.

Nope; accepted this widely reported statement as likely being factual:

I don't think you understand what I've said.  It's *always* reported by the game media as factual,  and it's the Press Release almost always stated "Shipped" not sold.

A good example would be:  Go google "Dragon Age 2 sells one million units" and then find the link on the DA2 boards to what they actually said,  you'll find what they actually said was "Shipped".

You can do it with other companies too.  Google "Fallout 3 sells 4.6 million units" and then cross-reference the NPD reports for the time period,  you'll find the real sales are ~2 million,  and if you google hard enough,  you'll find Zenimax's original Press Release which stated "Shipped".  (You can do this with Oblivion and Skyrim as well if you want to put the energy into it).

There is no confirming 900k sales in a day.  It's completely,  totally,  impossible.  EA is not jacked into every single retail store's inventory.  Sit and think about it for 5 minutes.  Come up with a way that EA is able to obtain sales data from every single retailer.  Also remember,  your solution must work for EA and EA only, it cannot be a solution any other Publisher can use,  nor can it be used for any other entertainment media,  because none of them claim to have exact sales figures in a day.

Otherwise,  you may want to start considering your whole policy on conjecture and rumors.

EA Sports games has always a large number of customers. Hockey, Football, Soccer, Basketball etc.
This branch of EA can keep EA alive.

You may want to take a look at the Quarterly Report  released in February of this year.  The short version is:  Even with ToR selling 2 million units,  and Battlefield 3 selling 10 million units,  and residual sales of Madden and Fifa,  then lost around 275 million dollars IIRC.  If you sell more than 12 million units and still lose a quarter or a billion,  Madden's not going to save them.

Did you actually read any of the articles, or just the headlines?

Note the word "shipping."

Note the word "sales" in 203+ articles on the topic. And Amazon seems to confirm the popularity on their site.

Note the word "cancer", which is what every post you make is the Internet equivalent of.

A part of me wants the old fans to go away and new fans to come in when it comes to the new game. Old fans won't stop dissing the new game and new fans won't be able to enjoy the next instalment without being harassed by angry hipsters. No offence, but clinging that much to the old games is just unhealthy...

I understand where most of the anger comes from, but seriously: let it go.
