he is squishy however and although he is mostly invincible doing light melee don't let him get hit in the side or back he is not completely invincible.
you have to know how to play him...I took on a prime or two doing this tactic and every one i was playing with was like Oh man you gonna die doing that and when i did not they were like damn that was cool.
You also have to know when to charge>melee>melee>melee>charge and run away as well ecause like i said he can be squishy if not careful.

I have since heard that this was a mistake...

Several builds tested, and still I just suck with this guy. Heavy melee is just garbage, too slow, too weak, no DR, misses too much. Charge is just charge. A lot of times charge instead of full shields ends up with zero shields and stragger. Phase distruptor has some use, biotic slash is defensive camping power. I really can't make this guy work.

Fun fact : I never ever seen anyone use anything else than biotic slah with this guy. I'm sure I remember he had another power.
I've been playing the Slayer almost exclusively for the past couple of weeks. I only use biotic slash when appropriate; more often I charge at a nearby enemy and teleport-dodge back. Also, phase disruptor for staggering atlasses is just fun.

I actually just played it for the first time last night and thought it was fun. If anyone has an optimal build for it, I'd love to hear it.

This is what I've been using for a couple weeks now to great effect. Use Disruptor ammo + Phase Disruptor for tech bursts, or Cryo/Incindiary ammo for cryo/fire explosions. With this build, you can get an additional 70% power damage bonus from heavy melee kill & biotic charge. So you end up with the following damage on Charge, Slash and PD:
Biotic Charge: 980 damage, 1470 Force (takes 1000 to stagger Gold/Platinum Phantoms)
Phase Disruptor: 1060 x3 = 3180 total with 17 feet radius
Biotic Slash: 1292.5
I'm not sure how much damage & force you get from Tech Bursts, Cryo & Fire explosions but whatever they are you can add them to the PD damage. If you use Disruptor ammo, the TB goes off on your first PD. If you use Cryo/Fire ammo, the PD has to kill them to set it off which is usually the 2nd or 3rd PD for non boss units and it damages everything within the explosion radius.
Played right, the N7 Slayer is an amazing class but what truly makes him great is his ability to phase through walls & cover. It allows for some very creative & crafty playing.

another reason why? the nerf of weapons make the BS actually useful. so Thank Bioware for making us use BS instead of my Saber X or Particle V.

BS spam a must for gold and above, otherwise its quiet anoyying at lower levels.

I actually use nothing but Biotic Charge on mine.
I hate Both PD and BS.

I don't have a single point in Biotic Slash with my Slayer.

when i do get slayer, i just hope people won't kick me for using him because he is a viable gold character without BS spamming.

I play Slayer for 90% of the time and I never use biotic slash... or very, very rarely.

even though i don't have the slayer, i don't hate him. what I do hate is the stigma it has received from people who assume whoever is playing a slayer is only going to BS spam and kicks them. there are other great powers and features the slayer has such as the invincibility frames from its light melee and phase disrupter which I've heard is superb.
Well put.
The best way to play this character (for me) is to take advantage of the DR from light melee and the biotic charge + phase disruptor synergy. I don't like powers that force me into a long animation, but I've specced my biotic slash to rank 3 because I like having all the tools available. It can be situationally useful, after all. Initially I didn't like this character, but once I got to know him better I found him both fun to play and a real powerhouse. Might actually be my favorite character in the game at the moment.

From what I read in the Vanguard Dicussion thread, the changes don't actually do much.Killahead wrote...
Look around, the community is actually embracing this character these days, even more so after the buff to biotic charge because of the improved synergy with phase disruptor. The character sort of invites you to be a biotic ninja, so I can see how it will attract those going all kamikaze lone wolf, but there's nothing wrong with the character itself and I think many are starting to realize that.
The buffs to BC just allow all Vanguards to stagger Phantoms on Gold+. The thing is that some classes have to take Power and Damage evolutions and go Force and Damage on BC.
The problems with the class: High risk for low reward are still present.

I would say that myself but Uzin, a Krogan god of vengence, would decsend from the sky and crush my skull with my own leg. So I'll just say that the N7 Slayer is my favorite non-Krogan.

I won't boot one from a group, but I just don't enjoy playing him. Not when the Shadow does the "sword-wielding assassin" thing so much better.

Its only high risk if you are unaware of your surroundings and place yourself in an area with no escape route. Both the Slayer and Fury can escape almost any situation due to phasing through walls/cover. This dramatically decreases the risk involved, though there is a bit of a learning curve as you have to figure out where you can and can't phase through objects.

Biotic slash spam, while very powerful, is incredibly annoying for anyone near them trying to aim with a gun. The minute I see Slash Spammers I ditch my long ranged, scoped weapons for something that can deal with the shake if they don't get kicked.

Actually all Vanguards can now go radius in biotic charge, only put 4 ranks into the passive tree (all vanguards should of course take it to rank 5 though) and still be able to stagger phantoms on gold and platinum. As for the change to power synergy I think a 40% damage bonus is pretty nice. Certainly a step in the right direction.
I've mainly used the Slayer since the change though, and I haven't read the Vanguard thread. Will do that now.

Haha. Maybe I should put it that way myself, seeing as the Krogan Soldier has always been my main man.
