Sorry but if the story is going to be heavily focused in Orlais, I need to feel like I'm native so I can better relate to the people.I can't imagine there would be very much immersion walking around in french Orlais with a foreign Ferelden accent.
I agree 100%. But I think that they'll have just a few French accents like the Divine. I believe this just on the basis that the movie Dawn of the Seeker was set in Orlais and everyone was Orlesian but everyone but a few spoke with British and American accents.

Didn't Stroud have a french accent? And that other warden that I can't remember, the one that bites the dust in DAO at the end of the game? They were fine.
Riordan. They were the same guy, also Duke Prosper and some others, plus that VA is legit French apparently.

By the way, what nationality is Nevarra suppose to represent? Swedish?
It's Austria as the Free marches are similar to Germany when it was just city states.

There is no need to express long winded discontent of french accents as there are french users who use these forums, don't be insensitive jerks.
Sorry. Just expressing my discontent in Dragon Age games, not rl...
I think I get where you are coming from.
Bioware isn't very good when it comes to getting accents; for example Kenneth from Mass Effect 2/3 sounded awful. Seriously.
Fricking terrible.
I am scottish so I ought to know, the actor can't do a Scottish accent - thankfully in ME3 Gabby does more of the talking. Hell even James Doohan aka Scotty from Star Trek did a better Scottish accent, and his was blatantly appallingly fake.
In Dragon Age 2 the Dalish are supposed to sound Welsh, and half of them sound fricking Irish. Some of the actors, and obv the voice director too, have no idea of the difference clearly.
So while the Orlesian accents dont bother me per se, I can certainly understand why they might bother you.
But please don't use that pic as an answer, ever again. Seriously, that was Blaine's low point in the show. He tries to pass off trying to force himself on Kurt in the back of a car as spontaneous and fun. Never apologises for it, and Kurt never calls him on it.
It's appalling.
Eugh.

The funny thing is, I read somewhere that Kenneth's accept was a deliberate homage to Scotty — namely, an engineer with a terrible Scottish accent.
That actor did a fairly decent Afrikaans accent.

And the Orlesian beards and mustaches look awful! They look like they are made of wax.. or made of something we don't mention in a polite conversation!

I'd honestly skip DA3 if everyone had a Orlesian accent. A few characters I could stand, but 90% of everyone, and the player character?!...........**** that!
Well if the bulk of the game is set in Orlais then yes, most of the people we encounter should have an orlesian accent.

If they wanted the central protagonist to be from Orlais very likely they'll compromise with the accent, i.e. go with an Actor/Actress with French roots and an inflection of the accent while actually having grown up either in the States, United Kingdom, or Canada.
The actress for Leliana was from the UK if I'm not mistaken, and, as such, she was never difficult to understand nor was her voice grating ("Teegaaaaan!") because it held a British Lilt mixed with French tones, especially when speaking softly.

But if Bioware gets genuine French VA and they're high quality I'd quite enjoy the atmosphere it would create. Unlike some people I'm not uncomfortable with accents, cultures and dialects outside of the UK and US. After all so is mine. And yes like a few people reading the "if they're French I won't play the game" I am a little uncomfortable with the xenophobia and borderline racist vibes.

Real French people sound pretty normal, you know. In fact, they sound just like you and me ... just with an accent. They don't sound silly or over-exagerated.
