I just got an "new" copy of DA2 with an expired online pass.  I don't want to deal with EA if I don't have to.  What will I be missing if I don't?

Yes, I know it has been out but I finally finished all my achievements for Origins and its dlc.

Thanks.

I know what a mabari is but what is the black emporium? Is it important?

Not really, it's a store, you just get a bit of nice gear, a crafting table and a mirror that lets you change your appearance anytime you want, you're not missing out.

A mabari is a dog you can summon to chew on your enemies.

I've had success in using "expired" codes for BioWare games several times, so if you're interested, I'd recommend that you try the code anyway.

The online pass gives you access to the Black Euporium. The Euporium sells the Kaker's Sigh which lets you change your apperance but it also allows you to redistribute up to 100 attribute points. The Maker's Sigh allows you to respec Hawke. The Eurporium is a store that has neat items. If you go there when you recieve the letter you can get several nifty items for free. Also if you miss getting an ingredient for the potions, runes or posions that ingredient will show up in the Eurporium in the next act.
The Eurporium sells items that will not be found any where else.
The dlc gives you the marbari as a summons for Hawke.

I bought a second copy of DA2 just days ago. My code was expired too but it worked like a charm regardless. Worse comes to worse, just contact EA's chat support, they're very helpful with unlocking things when the normal system fails. They even gave me a new key (essentially a new copy) of ME1 when I had problems adding my copy of ME1 to Origin.

As far as I know we've not actually ever expired the codes - so unless they are used already they should still work (this is true even for DAO codes).

I think he means that he bought a cheap pre-owned copy Fernando.

Ya know those things that EA hates because they think that gamers should only rent usage of a game, and not actually own it? lol.

Thus the code would be "expired".

@Bs

I think you would probably have to email EA support, as horrible as you may think they are.

He might have bought a new one. New copies are still sold here and there.

He may have bought a new copy, but why is the "new" in qouation marks?

My copy of DA2 was "new" but my code was already used.

To me the new being in quotes means that its a "new" game for him but an old copy, preowned possibly. Sounds that way at least.

This.

The expiration date is the time EA doesn't promise that they'll provide the content/service anymore. It's a way to get out of any legal issues that might arise if they shut down any servers or canceled a service.

However, the content itself is still available.

Perhaps because the game was released a year ago, and it's not still being produced, so any new copy is still a year old - it just hasn't been purchased by anyone yet.

Maybe it would have been better if OP had said unopened copy or opened but never used copy. My local Gamestop has copies of PC games on the self that are opened but have never been used. PC copies do not get a lot of attention in my neighborhood.

I would like to see this mythical gamestop that still considers the PC a platform worth devoting shelf space to. The only PC games I can get from mine are ones I preorder.

I will never tell because then I cannot get them for 99 cent when they do inventory and want to get rid of them.

The gamestops (EB GAMES  in Canada) here have PC games on the shelf, or more accurately a  Blizzard shelf. Not much there besides WoW.

Maybe he meant new as in gamestop opened the game and put the disc in a sleeve and the empty box on the shelf, then sold it to him as "new". Mine does that all the time. Sometimes they remember to take the registration and dlc codes out of the box, other times they don't.

i've known people that would take the DLC code or registration out of the display box and then just get a cheaper used copy, though I don't see the point as Gamestops used games are only like 2 dollars cheaper. Might as well get new not just for the DLC or supporting the game company but you don't have to worry about the disc being scratched or the games case smelling like an ash tray.
