Kaidan because I played through ME2 first and was like "who is that sexy beast?"  But in all seriousness, I romanced him because he was sweet, quite, and an all around great guy.

How is Ashley untrustworthy? Miranda's only a b**ch if you didn't take 10 seconds to speak to her, which is your own fault, not hers.

I like this, do not necessarily agree with all of it, but I like your attitude and approach to romance characters

I've tried all of them in different playthroughs. But I have to go with Jack, I thought her background and her attitude was the best for my Shepard. Liara being my second choice, and Tali as my Third. And Kelly was just a side thing, someone had to feed the fish lol.

Thane and apparently I believed it was the right choice for my Sheps (yes, all my FemSheps). Now that I look back, I have realized that I seem to like couples doomed for failure. Sookie and Eric. Buffy and Spike. Angel and Faith. Elena and Damon. BioWare and EA. Capt. Jack Harkness and Capt. John Hart.

I wouldn't know how to chose a happy ending.

I'd pick someone else but then I'd probably just end up killing my Shep off in the end.

I have multiple Shepards who have different romances for each, but I keep going back to Kaidan, and not just because of him finally being available for my male Shepards in ME3. It's the course of their relationship that draws me in. There is something about the idea of them both being unable to do anything regarding their feelings in ME1 - for Kaidan, this is his commanding officer, and the fact that Ashley and Liara have an interest in Shepard makes him back off rather than get involved in that mess, so he just politely stays out of it, perhaps even being a little unsure of his feelings towards this man, who I see as one of the few men that Kaidan ever pictured being with, let alone loving. And for Shepard, on top of some lingering concerns about the deaths of those close to him from his past, I LOVE the humanizing effect the idea of Commander F*cking Shepard being afraid to admit how he feels to someone. That fear of being rejected makes Shepard feel more human to me, rather than the image of the superhuman being that the rest of the galaxy holds.

Then in ME2, Shepard is so concerned about Kaidan, not letting him come with him to get Joker, and Kaidan has to watch the man that he has been falling in love with die. Then he's suddenly back and seemingly abandoned his principles to work with Cerberus. Shepard's groan-worthy dialogue is him overcompensating for the fact that he wanted to pull Kaidan close, and then the conversation just snowballs and spirals out of control.

And then finally, in ME3, Shepard nearly loses Kaidan and Kaidan realizes that he needs to step up to the plate and come clean. Their conversation at the cafe isn't Shepard considering being with Kaidan for the first time, it's the first time that he's heard it out loud, and he realizes how right it sounds. Their romance scene feels not like the first time, just... I don't know, maybe the RIGHT time. The way that they're looking at each other, how genuinely HAPPY they are in that moment, that moment when the weight on their shoulders melts off, the rest of the universe goes on hold while they have this time to be together... It's utterly beautiful for me.
