And let me repeat what I said earlier, you don't only get to play Wii games on a Wii, but you can play NES, SNES, Gamecube, N64, Sega Genesis and other old school console games on it. That's a TON OF GAMES!
I mean, read the other arguments for getting an xbox360 for example "It's got amazing achievements!" Seriously? If you have a good PC, then the Xbox360 is nothing else but a wannabe PC.
Why get more of the same, when you have can have a console that's totally different. PC + Wii = Compliment each other well.

Seriously dude, get a Wii. With the Wii U soon out, they are going to be dirt cheap and your friends and family will love it too.

The only reason to buy a second platform, is for the variety of games you can play - not so you can substitute using one for another (if both in working condition). To get a console, just so you can socialise, is like buying a phone, to play games. And as M2105 was saying, there's already achievements for PC (for some games, obivously not all), why would you buy a console for that purpose? Seems more like a personal reason, rather than an astute or comprehensible reason.
When you buy something, it's generally better to think with your head, rather than your heart.

Xbox if you're a 'social gamer' and primarily want to play online and interact with an online community, and enjoy the exclusives such as Gears and Halo. I honestly wouldn't get an Xbox if you're mainly an offline gamer. The best part about an Xbox is its online and social aspect behind it.
Playstation has utility -- blu ray drive, no online payment, and has lots of exclusive titles. I think it is a more offline oriented console. Since the online is come as you please and many of the exclusives aren't really multiplayer focused.
Basically.
Wii -- broader gaming experience
360 -- online gameplay
PS3 -- offline with free online utility

Lol, how I didn't catch the irony in what I said I have no idea. From the little bit I've played of PS3 games I'd get that just off of the amount of exclusives alone though. The major exclusives on 360 are just Gears of War and Halo. I'd say Fable too but then that feels like I'm pushing it.
I'll have to agree with this, speaking as a 360 owner.
Although I do prefer the 360 controller, the PS3 has the upper hand in both games and graphics quality with games like Uncharted, Heavy Rain, God of War, etc. It's not that the 360 is bad, but when you consider how similar their two biggest game franchises are in terms of focus (online multiplayer, killing aliens, etc), it feels old compared to stuff like Heavy Rain.
And this is all coming from a Halo fanboy.
