Shouldn't elves racial stat bonuses include DEX? Also , shouldn't they be able to run faster since they are slim?

They are supposed to be the greatest archers in all of Ferelden or something... but their races stats are +2 WIL and +2 MAG?

I think they should get +2 WIL +2 MAG +5 DEX instead actually , maybe 5s a bit extreme? But archery and hunting is their freaking lives so I think that would be appropriate actually , its fair too because Dwarves get that ridiculous 10% spell resistance

Edit : Also the elves are very slim , theres honestly no chance in hell a Dwarf would run the same speed as them , what if Humans ran at base speed Dwarves at -10% speed and elves at +10% speed? That would be interesting

Agree with this post.

When my elven PC was having a chat with Leliana, she actually mentions that the elves are seen by humans as being dextrous and nimble. Bizzarely, the game gives a dex bonus to human and not to elves.

Working as intended?

I was thinking that the other day, especially as one NPC made reference to the legendary agility of elves, or something like that, yet they get no bonus but humans get +1, and even dwarves do. However +5 seems way over the top - maybe +2 or something.

Well considering the humans and dwarves get +1 each its really like they would get +4 and since their supposed to be so agile its legendary? even +20 would STILL be appropriate , but over powered

+5 would have to do

Of course they are great archers , its their whole life to practice archery and hunt , then they are supposedly very dextrous and agile , which makes sense they are in great shape

But then their stat bonuses are strictly mental stats? Thats messed up

Edit : If you pick Dalish Elf then it should just give you the extra DEX then , if they can give them a whole different origin story they can give them different stats too

This would only work if they gave major buffs to both dwarves and humans as well.  If you're giving elves a +5 dex bonus you'd have to at the very least give dwarves +5 constitution(if not more because constitution kind of sucks).
I'd personally enjoy seeing
1. Humans +1 to all stats, +1 free ability and skill at level 1.
2. Dwarf +2 to strength,+2 to vigor,+ 5 to constitution,10% spells/knockdowns resisted,10% slower movement speed.
3. Elves + 2 to magic, +2 to cunning, +5 to dexterity, 10% better at pickpocketting and spotting/disabling traps.10% faster movement speed.

Oh yeah Dwarves should have high knockdown resistance , low center of gravity is harder to knock down

What does being slim have to do with being fast? Usain Bolt. the current world record holder: Posted Image
Being short will have more of an impact - it's your stride. You don't see any short sprinters/runners holding records. Being lean and cut is a side effect of having really good cardio, not the cause.

I would be more for giving elves some racial skill like "gets +5 attack with bows and crossbows", while humans get something like "gains an extra starting talent" or something.

Then we would have:

Elf - +5 to attack with ranged weapons
Humans - extra starter talent
Dwarf - 10% spell resistance

And we would actually have some lasting difference, not two races which have no relevant difference whatsoever (elves and humans) and a third which gets a lonely advantage.

Or that. Even better.

Maybe humans should just get lvl 2 Coercion for free from the start? They are regarded as the superior race on their planet right so...?

True. (Not 1% though, that's... low enough for death. Minimum is 3-5% for guys.) However, it's still far from the elves. Slim is "slender, as in girth or form; slight in build or structure. sized for the thinner than average person." You definetely wouldn't call these guys tinner than average (check out their chest, shoulder, and thighs!) Nor would you say they're "slight".
Check out Brad Pitt, 5'11:
Posted Image
That's '91 with not much muscle, default ectomorph. In '99, he buffed up for Fight Club, at 150-155 lbs with about 5-6% body fat (actually losing weight from before). '04, that's an extra 10-15 pounds of muscle. 175 lbs with about 8% body fat.

Pitt at Troy - 5'11 @ 175 lbs. (BMI 24.4)
Statam - 5'9 @ 170 lbs. (BMI 25.1)
Bolt - 6'5 @ 210 lbs. (BMI 24.9)

"Slim", these guys ain't.
(I do weight training, and along with my friends, we probably pay way too much attention to other dudes. Strictly for comparison, of course.)

Or, these are just stories. All it takes is a few elves to be really good at archery for tales to start being spread, and then soon it becomes ALL elves are good at archery. As history passes, it turns from good to legendary.

Besides that, +5 seems arbitrary, and does not equate to legendary, especially since you can raise it to more than +5 after only two levels.

I think whatever bonus you receive should be tailored towards the class you choose, whatever that means.

i dont get the whole idea some people seem to be stuck on about elves are all about archery and hunting. when i make a city elf i would be led to believe their life is about being poor and beaten down. it would also appear the average city elf has never owned a weapon in their life, let alone actually trained and practiced to hunt with one.

i think too many people are taking their impression of elves from other games and trying to imprint it onto dao.

that is basically how it is now.

you get 4 stat points for picking race.

then you get 10 stat points for picking a class.

your race is actually really minor in comparison to the class you choose, and then after a few levels is all but meaningless.

In good shape, yes. Skinny, no. Being skinny does not mean you're in good shape.
