I hate modern rap and prefer underground hiphop, 90's, compared to garbage like Lil' Wayne, Rick Ross, etc.
My favourite has to be anything instrumental, I'm a sucker for those, haha.

How can you dislike rock? There's like so many types of rock....
Anyway I'll listen to anything that's well-made and artistic...Rock, Country, Rap, etc. Except for Metal. I try and try, but I don't know if I'll ever enjoy it.Hyperglide wrote...
Can't say I'm surprised by the amount of hate that Rap/Hip-Hop gets around here.
What did you expect. Not calling anyone racist but isn't it funny how we focus on the sexism and profanity of Rap but adore "classics" like the LCD Beatles, Cocaine and Sex of Rolling Stones and Stooges? Funny.
Most underground rappers are white, so it's not racist at all lol.. And when I say I like Rap and Hip-Hop I don't mean that crap they play on the Radio or MTV. Check out the what I'm listening to thread for some GOOD Hip-Hop for some of you people who are intrigued by great hip-hop but haven't been exposed to it yet.

No problem. So many don't like it 'emotionally' because of its sad side? Many genres have sad/blue side ...
The people can rationalize that we only listen to our superior civilized megalopolis music, not country music of villagers! ... whatever.
I agree that Modern Country is awful.
Still no one can ignore the awesomeness of Johnny Cash and Marty Robins
Also I don't get the unpopularity of Rock'n'Roll and Rockabilly. Maybe they're not as glorious as 'Rock' and should be forgotten?

You have my sympathy fellow.

Note: Movies and Game music are derived from classic, jazz, pop, techno etc. genres. They're not exactly a genre. I like many Games music (in historical games) and Movie music pieces too (John Williams).

As for the whole rap/ hiphop racist thing, I don't normally like the genre but not because of skin colour. My issue is that most rappers even the white ones, rap about their upbringing in poverty and the situations of the poor, while doing nothing to help. They have the money now to actually help their community and instead buy more cars and show off their wealth in videos, it kind of disgusts me.

I hardly listen to my "May listen to" list like Dat Dubstep. If my cousins listen to them, I may listen to when I'm around them. Most of the year I don't listen to them actually.
But if they play dirty kind of music or Metal, my punch is in their face or better to say their player! [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/devil.png[/smilie]
My poor RL friends has no Car where I live, no wonder I hardly see them around

I think it can be done right, but mostly I hate it as well. Modern death metal in particular can get on my nerves. A lot of it claims to be brutal but doesn't sound that way to me at all. Old-school Autopsy is what I would classify as good; it is so incredibly simple. Not fast, not technical, but it works and it's better than 95% of modern death metal.
I wish I knew more instrumental metal actually. It can be a very good genre even if youi don't like the screaming.

You probalby represent about 90% of the people in this thread that hate Rap/Hiop-Hop. They associate "Rap" as only what they see in music videos and on cable TV or on the radio. Crap like Waka Flock, Lil Wayne, Flo Rida, Soulja Boy Tell'em, Rick Ross, etc. etc.
There is some wonderful Hip-Hop out there. You just gotta try a bit harder to find it. But most people are to lazy to give a crap.
Oh and I was young once and HATED and I mean HATED Rap/Hip-Hop (cept for Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer when they were the **** once) when I was in my teens ( listened to mostly grundge, metal, alt. rock) back in the day. Then I listened to a Pete Rock and CL Smooth and Eric B and Rakim album. Changed my life.

Back on page 1 of this thread, I did point out what is dubstep and what is brostep. Not one person made a reply.:innocent:marshalleck wrote...
Well the thing is, I actually like some early stuff like Skream and whatnot. But good luck trying to explain the difference to anyone. If there's any hint of the word dubstep they automatically assume it sounds like Skrillex.
Oh and to everyone else rap is fantastic.

Most Death Metal
Most Screamo
Some Emo
House,Trance,Jungle (It's hit or miss for me and after awhile the same beat gets boring. And yes, I understand that, that's the whole point of this kind of music.)
Showtunes (there's only so much prancing about and sing-song that I can take.)
Dirty South Rap and some (but not all) Gangsta Rap
Reggaeton y Hip-Hop
Today's Teen Pop
Indie Folk (like Of Monsters and Men)
Spoken Word (I don't hate it, I just can't get into it.) I would probably enjoy it better in a jazz/nightclub.
Some J-pop and Anime (but not all)
And I don't like the way Auto-Tune is used in today's music. (eg: Cher's "Believe" and T-Pains music.)

may listen to other stuff but
I Dislike bad music - monotonous/irritating dance records, tuneless rap, talentless punk
(Not a dislike to these genres as a whole but only when they are poor musically without some redeeming creative talent [e.g. I dislike most rap but liked Grandmaster Flash's- White Lines, and I do like John Otway for his creativity and sense of fun despite his lack of conventional musical talent])

Just felt the need to say that screaming is not a necessary component of good metal in the slightest. Indeed, I detest screaming (and grunting almost as much, but I do love Amon Amarth). Just have a gander at Iron Maiden, old Metallica and Tool to see what I mean.chunkyman wrote...
