How I think MP could work in DA3

I think MP could work in DA3 if it works as its own stand alone portion of the game. You could put together a group of characters (maybe even allow the import class/race from SP game) and take part in short adventures. Bioware could put together repeatable side quest type adventures. These side adventures could have some familiar themes: clear the forest of darkspawn, hunt down a group of blood mages, protect the apostate mage from templars. The DA world is already really well put together.
Maybe there is a tavern to get bulletin quests or something like that. And when you have put together your team you perform the short adventure. The adventures could be like rescue a girl from a cave with a blight bear, or escort a caravan through a darkspawn infested dwarven underground road. You could use this side adventures to build up your SP character outside the SP game and import him/her back into the SP game. Rewards could be gold or unique items that could also be transferred back into the game. Maybe you can recieve unique companion gear, tomes to raise attributes or even discover new class specialties.
The MP gold could be used at the tavern to purchase equipment players might miss in the SP game, or even used to purchase unique abilities like the ability to summon a mabari. It doesn't  have to follow the same design as ME3 MP did. And the MP could just be used as a repeatable side adventure for people who finish the game but would like to keep adventuring and playing their made heroes.
These are just some of my own ideas... Posted Image

Entangling MP and SP is not a good idea. How do you make the game be properly balanced for both people who don't play MP and those who do?

The attempt to do this in ME3 totally screwed up the EMS mechanic.

Not every game needs MP. In fact, I'm sick and tired of seeing nearly every game on the market that has MP. I'm not saying that it wouldn't be fun or interesting, but after ME3 I don't want MP injected anymore into RPGs.

I'd prefer if DA3 will not have MP, but in the case it'll be present, I hope it'll be completely separated from the SP.

The only multiplayer I see working in Dragon Age would be jump in co-op.

The only way MP will work if its never implemented, but since it will be, let it be done in the worse way possible: Horde mode 3.3.

I guess if they took some of the design decisions from Star Wars :The Old Republic, they could make online co op work, I wasn't even thinking about that before. I figured that it would be some kind of mages vs templar battle thing but basically Star Wars:TOR is basically an online rpg from what I'm given to understand. I've never played it.

BG
BG2
NWN
NWN2

All games that implemented multiplayer into their single player and it worked. MP doesn't necessarily mean ruining the single player. Developers just don't put enough time into the two to make them work.

Dragon Age could do with a co-op system similar to BG and NWN. It could also use a toolkit. The latter more than the former actually.

NWN SP was clearly hurt by being designed for MP.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

But idk, I could kind of maybe see something subtle. Like it needs to have absolutely nothing to do with the single player. Kinda like a side campaign of some sort. Shorter (10-20 Hours?) and you could have 4 people just doing it, and the party leader makes plot decisions and etc. IDK, I don't want it, but it could happen and I hope it happens this way

ME3 wasn't designed for MP, they were developed seperately.

I don't mind a co-op mode overmuch since I do like to play with friends in the MQ, I just don't want what ME3 did by creating an entirely different mode. Overall, I want time and money to be focused on the content most players will use. People play RPGs to roleplay, not bash strangers on the internet and insult their mothers.

If you meant the OC, then I'd disagree. NWN was by for the most atmospheric and RP-variable games BioWare has ever made. The mediocre main plot had nothing to do with it. Hell, BioWare are famouse for making great games out of mediocre stories. It mostly involves their facility with writing awesome characters.

Geez, RPG fans are so guarded when it comes to MP. It's the last unknown in gaming for me. I want co-op RPGs and share experiences with friends. Just as long as it's not going to take too much from SP. Something like Baldur's Gate is absolutely perfect for Dragon Age...especially if they open the game up more in DA3 like they hinted.

Co-op makes ANY game fun for me just because I'm playing with friends. I like to share my experiences. I'm very open to MP personally, just as long as it doesn't cause too much compromise on SP. Playing something like Diablo 3 just makes me wish more RPGs did co-op. I'd really like to see it in the Elder Scrolls games...run around and quest with my buddies.

I get the argument we don't get many pure SP games anymore. I can sympathize with that because I do kinda feel that way too. But I also feel that MP is younger in RPGs than any other genre. It hasn't come close to reaching its potential. I can only imagine some amazing experiences in the future...

I only played SWTOR in beta but it really opened my eyes how story co-op can be great(even though it's a MMO).

You are talking about an MMO, you should try SWtOR. I actually really like it despite what a lot of people say.

Nah, I've seen some RPGs do it on a much smaller scale. I was just using SWTOR as an example where co-op can go in RPGs. Bioware doesn't have to look any further than their current structure in Baldur's Gate to see a game that had GREAT SP and GREAT MP. They both worked together.

MP never hurt the Baldur's Gate games, I just want multiplayer to be a completely unnecessary after thought if they add it, and not something that can add to the single player game at all, just an option and nothing else.  If anything multiplayer should take away from the single player game, you will lose the dialogue of one of your companions to experiance it.

If they must do an MP, for the money (believe or not, many people bought ME3 just for the MP) then do so, but make it separate to the SP. I could see myself maybe playing it after I beat the game, or when I'm bored. But I don't want to get dimished experience in the SP because I didn't play MP.
