It can be awesome no doubt, but honestly... not a fan. Even in the Left4Dead style matches, it just breeds... hatred. And I'm not a big fan of hatred.
I love competition. I hate, hatred. I hate insulting and "trash talking" and all the things that online PvP has bred.
So let's keep ME3's MP unique... no PVP.

Perfect example of why PvP sucks. On Bronze, level 1 human adept. A dude shows up. N7 rating above 1200, load out a Hurricane II and Talon on a level 19 Fury. As expected, demolishes the match and, just to be a bigger douche, jumps out of the circle during extraction.
People suck. Whenever a douche gets the opportunity to be a douche (like spawn camping on PvP), they'll take it. Bad enough doing it in this game where everything is shared for Petes sake.

While I don't think the current multiplayer mode would support PvP (too unbalanced and still too buggy), I'd love to see it.
For those concerned about lore, it could take place before the first ME, when all the races were still fighting each other. Or people could opt to play against playable enemy factions/the indoctrinated.

This game is just totally not set up for PVP, it would ruin things.
This is my first lengthy experience of a co-op mp, most of my other mp gaming is pvp.
Geared higher N7 players would destroy less geared players, the weapons and way gear is collected in this game are not balanced for pvp.

erm the current engine is the unreal engine, its primary goal when it was first created? Unreal Tournament, which is a pvp game.
if you meant current gameplay mechanics, then i'd agree.
pvp doesnt fit in the current theme of mass effect 3, but we NEED MORE GAME MODES, Horde mode is getting really boring.

I agree that they need to add more modes, not just different wave goals in existing mode, I just don't want it to be pvp, it requires too much change.

Replace individual classes with faction based competition.

Actually, I could see it working more in a MMORPG-style PvP as opposed to FPS PvP, if stuff like gear and incapacitating biotic powers are being kept. In a straight shooter PvP, having multiple classes, gear and incapacitating powers are difficult to balance. I wouldn't say impossible, because of course there are class-based shooters, but you'd probably have to eliminate most one-shot-kill weapons, powers and the like, and/or mitigate such overpowered things by specifically creating gear, character upgrades (levelling up for points to put into attributes, hitpoints and the like?) or powers which can counter them.

im not trying to play some crap like GOW3 where people just spawn with sawed off shotgun and suicide bomb their way to the top of the scoreboard.

talk about not fun.
although it sounds like how some people try to solo gold with teammates in the match.
