That actually really intrigued me myself. Unfortunately, though, I do not believe we'll ever hear a proper explanation to it.

The whole thing seems pretty pointless to me and quite frankly doesn't make any sense if they aren't planning anything. Some had said that he gathered the data so that Bioware would know what their projected losses might be if they didn't go with the IT but that makes less sense to me than gathering data to ensure that an investment is likely to make money.   Why gather data to project your losses and do nothing to address a disillusoned segment of your fanbase, when you can exploit the needs of your fanbase to see a profit?

He's sort of like an Inverse- Einstein:

The moment we move outside of the limits of a logic, we’re in Inverse-Einstein territory, where the rules of that logic may not work any more. (A simple example: flicking the light-switch on and off won’t make any difference if the power’s out!) And the catch is that when the rules don’t apply, we can’t use the rules themselves to make sense of the context: in fact we’re likely to make sense of the context by identifying that the rules don’t make sense any more.

 

Right, there is that explanation, that we are in Biowareland where the rules of logic don't make sense any more.  You would think though, that if someone realized that the power was off and the lights weren't going when you flip a switch, that you wouldn't just stand there and continue to flip the switch hoping that a light will come on when it never will.

  As Einstein himself said "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results."

Well, I'd get into a "rules vs. principles" argument with you, but to be honest I don't think Bioware has either at this point.  

(To be clear rules are valid only within a known scope. While principles allow for and work with uncertainty, to create a bridge for the Inverse-Einstein,  between "order" and apparent chaos.)

My theory and speculation... to get ITers jacked up. Keep them on the hook. There will be no IT payoff in the end, but Bioware will continue to sprinkle little things in DLC they know will be fodder for ITers.

   Corporations aren't ethical but what if they were to a certain extent?  Things would be so much better for a lot of people.    This business strategy may work for them but an alternate strategy would be to simply deliver on an IT DLC even if it wasn't their plan to begin with.  Clearly, they aren't going to do so but I find it cruel to continue to offer false hope to people who deserve better. 

   Bioware could make a lot of money and at the same time make their fans happy.  There is a compromise to be had here and a win win situation is created.  The IT EC would be optional so we weren't sold an incomplete product and the pro enders get to keep their ending.  The satisfaction and happiness of their fans should be their number one priority instead of money being their God.  Imagine that, a Corporation with ethics.  It would really be a sight for sore eyes.

  This is all just meaningless banter of course, since they simply won't do it.  One thing is for sure, Karma has a way of getting you when you wrong people.  There is no escaping it.
