ME3 ending was just bad writing.
Ladies and gentlemen, the goto excuse for literalists. Why does Shepard get indoctrinated eyes in control/synthesis? Because bad writing. Why does Shepard wake up on what seems to be Earth after being at the epicenter of a blast measured in tens to hundreds of kilotons? Because bad writing. Why does control sound like TIM, synthesis sound like Saren, and starbrat actively discourages destroy? Because bad writing. Why does the kid on Earth only interact with Shepard while he teleports around, appears beside unique warning stickers with a bolt to someone's head, and spout cryptic warnings? Because bad writing. Why is the control option labeled "bad choice a" in the game's data files? Because bad writing. Why does the indoctrination codex mention "hallucinations of ghostly presences", which sounds a lot like the 'catalyst' and nothing like anything else mentioned involving indoctrination? Because bad writing. I could go on and on... This is why it's impossible to try to reason with literalists. It's not even like arguing with a brick wall because at least a brick wall keeps its mouth shut and is only thought a fool rather than opening it and proving so.
LOL
In the end one party will be correct. Literalists or IT Dream Theorists.
Here are the conditions for IT Dream to be successful:
- There will be a post-breath DLC that shows what happens after Shepard wakes up and finishes the war against the reapers (Not happening - confirmed by BIoware three times now)
- A new title where shepard wakes up and finishes the fight against the reapers (still slightly possible)
So, the next Mass Effect Title HAS TO DO THIS It has to show what happens when shepard wakes up. That is what IT Dream Theorists NEED to be right.
There you have it people.
And - as for handwaving - the IT Dream is a uber-conveniant way to handwave many of the plotholes that bad writing theory states as bad writing:
- How did shepard survive the explosion in destroy
- BW: It was just bad writing
- IT: IT was a Dream
- How can shepard survive in space?
- BW: It was just bad writing
- IT: It was a dream
- How did shepard survive harbingers beam
- BW: It was just bad writing
- IT: Harbinger wanted to knock him into a dream to indoctrinate him
- Why is it the ending seems to come out of nowhere and not make sense in the narrative
- BW: It was just bad writing
- IT: Because it is a dream
Each offers a handwave that answers all the questions we have. One is just a bit more direct (bad writing) wheras the other creates a reality to justify the plotholes. In the end - one will be right and the other will not be.
But Remember...the next Mass Effect Title NEEDS TO SHOW What happens when shepard wakes up in order for IT Dream to be alive.
