How important is the Survival skill? Should I get all ranks?

If I pick Combat Tactics for my main char, are all chars affected by it? Meaning does each one get an additional tactic slot or just me?

Is Combat Training necessary for a mage, particularly a spirit healer?

When my chars learn new spells/skills, do the tactics update automatically to include them or do I need to manually input it?

What is the best combat stance for my chars? aggresive, defensive? does it depend on the class? the situation?

Survival skill is more or less useless

Combat tactics for your main character is basically useless

Combat tactics should be considered mandatory for the 3 CPU characters in your party

If you don't ever customize your tactics then yes they will automatically update them

Combat stance depends per class

I am running a character with high Survival right now and I can notice red dots on map much sooner and further now. Since I already know from previous games they are there it doesnt do much for me. It is essential for one specific quest only.

Tactics are separated for each character, if you get more on your PC it doesnt affect others. They are not updated automatically either, you have to pick each new one manually.

Combat Training is prerequisite for certain spells/abilities, mouseover and see the reqs.

Stance depends on character and situation imo.

Combat tactics may be useless for your main character if you almost never take control over others. I do so and often.
I didnt notice they update automatically either but then I always set mine up and very often as well.

Considering you generally only need to take over the other members for about half a second at a time (Due to the fact the game pauses when in the talent/spell menus) its not nessecary to have alot of tactics for your main character

Your main characters default 4 or 5 slots should suffice for the 1 or 2 seconds that you don't use them for , thats what I think anyway

And if I remember correctly two ranks in Surv is all that's needed for that quest if people want to bother with it.

To the OP:
Combat training matters more for melee.  The higher tiers of each weapon school requires more combat training.
Combat tactics is pure useless if you play on the pc and like to micromanage.

Survial skill is IMHO a good skill to allocate once you have Combat maximized on your tank and he also got the first step of poison (enough so he can use any of them). Granted, I never actually used any poison on my tank simply because its much more efficient to use them on a dual weapon user, but meh.

Otherwise skill points are very sparse in DA, especially at the start, so I avoid wasting them. Survival doesnt have THAT much of an effect - you simply can see whats going on.

I thought of another question, when playing a healer, how do you use single target heals on other members of your party? I'm playing on a PS3 btw. I'm assuming if I just activate the skill it will self-cast. I need to know how to cast it on others. Thanks.

Well I like to take over some of them for a longer than that. And sometimes I just play with tactics to see how far I can go without pausing much and still have the "feeling" of group combat. After certain level there arent many useful skills you can get so I like to mess with tactics.
