I must admit: After playing through DA:O + All DLC (Aprox 70 hours), DA2 is pretty refreshing.

Hell on the upper difficulties the Harvester battle alone takes up a good hour. Your companions fall instantly and you run around the arena and bridges slowly wittling down the Harvesters health with poisons, grenades, spells, and good ole melee attacks when nothing else exists. Then back to running because you can't stand a chance against the Harvester's minions waving you.

I hate that ****ing fight so goddamn much.

I don't think I ever found a use for any of the worthless sods you get saddled with in that dlc, at any point. I can't imagine ever playing that with a glass cannon character that actually requires someone to tank, because bloody hell. One time, I gave the warrior dwarf several hundred stamina (was it stamina, that gave health? Was that a thing?) via cheats and he still got obliterated.

After that, DA2 was indeed a welcome relief.

God I hated them! I could respec with a tome and bring in some decent armor from Awakening. Then with that in place they'd handle well enough for 99% of the DLC. The only times they'd give me trouble was when you had a few golems to fight. Those fights have to be mircomanged and in fact sometimes the best thing you can do is walk into a room and lead the golems into an ambush at a choke point. It leads to boring but efficent fights.

But then there's the Harvester. And the Fully Upgraded Rune Golem is nothing compared to a Spirit Healer Blood Mage Wynne or Anders. And despite my best efforts one dwarf will ALWAYS DIE in that first 30 seconds. This is followed instantly by the Rune Golem. The Warrior Dwarf will usually last a tuch longer if I've done a decent job with the respec and tactic him to use potions when his health hit the half way point. But there's no stopping his envitable demise.

In the first 2 minutes of the fight you will be alone. And from there on in you're stuck in the single longest fight of the series. One second of mismanaging a mage Warden here will get you killed. Warriors and Rogues have it easier (and a shorter fight) but it's still a tough bastard where you win the day by wearing the Harvester down one hit point at a time.

IT'S SO GOD AWFUL OF A FIGHT THAT I DREAD GOLEMS OF AMGARRAK EVERY TIME I START AN ORIGINS CHARACTER.

Why not skip the DLC? It has no choices in it and has no bearing on DA2?

Becuase I have brain damage, apparently. I also do that mining quest where you get them pick axes despite the axes costing 15 gold for nothing.

I can't explain myself. I finish every quest I can... always.

It's funny, today I finished Golems of Amgarrak in 1 hour and 24 minutes on Nightmare. It's not that hard really.
You know, the thing that makes it way much easier, is to control the Rune Golem all the time at the Harvester fight.
Because that Rune Golem literally is the weakest piece of garbage ever, but ever so important. He dies with 3 minor hits from a skeleton. Man, even when I put all the attribute points into Constitution, still no effect. And there I thought Golems were tanks. But anyway.
I'll sum up my boss fight today:
When the fight started, I ran to the switch and activated it. Activated Stone Defense on my main character and Jerrik. Took control of the Golem, and spammed the Heal spell. As soon as the Harvester turns on the Lyrium switch again, I instantly turn it off. Repeat, repeat repeat and hold control of the Rune Golem all the time when not giving orders. Keep close tabs on everybody's health. Use much potions for your party.

Now, in the OP I meant that DA2 is bad compared to DA:O. I forgot to mention that. My bad (haha).
I'll edit that as we speak into OP.

There are some things I love about DA2: Legacy, Leliana in Exiled prince and the epilogue, the Arishok, Varric, the way the game ends (Yeah, call me on that, but I love cliffhangers), and the High Dragon fight on Nightmare. Oh, and the talent trees.

I love DAO and DA2 but story wise and companions I prefer DA2. Alistair is a sweetie, Zevran and Morrigan are fun, but Oghren, Sten, Wynne and Leliana were too bland for me. I liked all companions in DA2, only Aveline and Bethany were blandish but not as bad as Wynne UGH

Combat wise I found DAO almost unplayable but DAA has some fun overpowered warrior moves. "Massacre" is hilarious, the enemies drop like flies with your shout. Reaving Storm is handy, can eat and play at the same time,

I've got to say.... I should have seen that coming. Dance the Rune Golem around attackers and manually heal the team as they battle.

I didn't like DA2 the first time I played it, but now that I've played it many times I like it just fine. Not the waves of enemies, or the reused dungeons, but all the interaction with different combinations of npcs, their quests, and their banter is the kind of thing I like in a game. I've found something new each time I play.,.

Also, playing a Mage in this game is far better that trying to be a Mage in Origins.

Playing a mage in DA2 is fun. Playing a mage in DAO is not fun. In fact once the party had enough health points the mages basically stayed in camp except to do their personal quests. I only played the mage origin once. It was tedious (IMHO). DA2 made playing a mage fun and interesting.  My favorite party is 3 rangers and a tank. I play on the PC so I had a pet for each raner. Also all had archery. You could turn anything into a pin cushion.

I disagree. The character i've had most fun while playing DA:O is a elf healer. Laying down protective wards, making sure the party has stamina and of course timing casting heal and regeneration is fun, in my opinion. Playing that role in DA2 however was not fun due to the lack of spells and the increased pace of combat.

I played Golems exactly once. Once was enough. The feeling of my brain oozing out of my ears from sheer frustration is not a good thing. Hated those dwarves with a fiery purple passion. Even using a mod to cheat and buff their stats, using armor/runes from Awakening, they still went down faster than a 2 dollar ****. They shall forever be enshrined in their tombs with the names "Useless" and "Stupid".

At least the two you get in Witch hunt had some personality to them.

Mages were all right in Origins. They had some great spells but you tended to have to pick up some spells you'd either rarely use or never use to get them. But Origins is a Rogue's game. Especially once you get Combat Stealth.

DA2's fun with Rogues. Hell a huge part of the game is threat management and the Rogue is better at that than Warrior tanks are. But I personally like the feel of the Warrior and Mage more in DA2. Warriors are great to build and Mages are simply fun to do.

Yes, Origins is definitely a Rogue game. I played a Rogue - Assassin, Duelist and Legionaire Scout.
Had armor runes wich give me +10 constitution. Had the best of the best daggers with both high chances of paralysis. Had 50% chance to dodge attacks + 3 full chances of avoiding attacks. And had +200% critical damage with 85% critical chance. I was so immensely overpowered, that I didn't have to do anything in most battles on Nightmare. It wasn't even fun anymore.

That's trufax. Rogues in Origins was THE way to play. I didn't believe people at first because I had so much fun as a Mage and then a Sword and shield warrior. But once you get like level 12-14 the game starts showing you how completely devestating and bad ass rogues can be.

This! I have never really enjoyed playing mages before DA2. They just felt more active and fun. Almost as much fun as the rogues.

I love DA2 more than DAO and Awakening, but I do look forward to doing a 3:d playthrough of DAO sometime, in order to get a new background to import from. I just can't figure out what Origin will be most fun to build upon (elf or dwarf is a given, though not sure which one of the 4 available). Might actually skip the DLC this time (except Witch Hunt that I love because of the banter). I enjoyed the Awakening expansion, so I'll definitely play that one.

As most have said, MotA and Legacy were excellent DLC, and I still get all teary-eyed every time I think about the cancelled Exalted Marches expansion. I love my Hawkes so much and I would have loved to see what happened to them after the end of DA2. (;_;) I even made sure to put as much variety into the different playthroughs, in order to get the maximum fun out of the expansion, since we all knew it was coming. Sigh. Such wasted opportunity.

This so much! The DLC for DA2 has been so great. I was pretty sad too, when I heard the news. While I don't really like Hawke as a character, especially the voice acting, I loved the aspect of the Hawke family. Malcolm's backstory + Legacy, Bethany - Circle or Carver - Grey Warden, Leandra dying in Act 3, the Birthright quest + alot of Codex. That I liked!

Both games have their pros and cons, but having done it before myself I definitely agree that playing DA2 after working through DAO and all it's DLC is really refreshing.

It shall be interesting to see how DA3 plays in comparison, it could end up making a marathon playthrough of all 3 games (with DLC) quite the experience.
