I had trouble installing Origin, too: The download always broke down halfway along. I had to do it with a download manager and it took about twenty or so attempts for the program to piece the download together. If you have problems try to get rid of all the traces of the old Origin. The first versions were still labelled as "beta". In fact just the last update a couple of weeks ago removed "beta" from its title bar.
Good luck and add Caustic_Agent to your list if you like.

@OP You mentioned the firewall, but what about your anti-virus? Some anti-virus packages will also block programs from accessing internet/network connections if you don't add them to a white-list.

I think I might be in. And I'm at a Starbucks so I think we can conclude that my router at home is blocking one of the ports the EA servers need. I'll try to figure that out. I guess in the meantime I can play with someone....

(Though I anticipate I will have many lag issues due to being at Starbucks...lmao)
