Mass Effect Film (Soon to be, script finished): My picks for cast/crew/director.

mass effect has a story, therefore any known director would be allowed zero creative freedom to make the story their own.

Good choice.
May I add Kristanna Loken as Liara?
So much win!
No arguments here. I stated how cool it would be if voice actors reprised their roles. Although if they were to redo the cast voice-actor wise, I vote Joe Mangiello for Garrus.
EDIT: No, Joe as garrus would be silly. I just enjoy his work

Ellen Page as Ashley Williams
Ok seriously?
SERIOUSLY!?
Am I the only here who laughed his *** off when I saw this? Ellen Page as Ashley Williams? Why do I have to be the one to bring this up? Because as far as thinking of actresses that can be so horribly miscast as a character, Ellen Page as Ashley is pretty far down there. I mean REALLY far down there.
I mean I like Ellen Page, but there is an event horizon of awfulness if OP seriously thinks Ellen Page should play Ashley Williams. Screw it let's just have Michael Cera play Shepard while we're at it.
I respect your differing opinion, but that last line is serious gold10/10.
I'm sorry I can't let this go. Ellen Page is a 5ft 100lb pipsqueak. She is also one of the most non intimidating actresses in Hollywood, and looks absolutely nothing like Ashley Williams. I can't fathom how you saw this. The only explanation i came up with is that you love Ellen Page and your romance Ashley, and you want to see Ellen cosplay as Ash really bad.

Why? The sould of Mass Effect is the choices you make and the characters that appear and speak with you.
In Mass Effect 1, You're going to alienate part of your audience on the Virmire Survival, let alone the LI or any other choice in the game. A movie also canonizes events from the game, something that should never happen in an RPG, at all.
Moving on to Mass Effect 2, You're never going to get the characters properly written. At all. Its impossible.
Lets say we have a two hour film for Mass Effect 2. We'll set aside 30 mins for the Lazerus Project and Suicide Mission. That leaves us an hour and 30 mins or 90 mins to introduce and characterize 15 characters. Doing the math, we have 7.5 mins to do so. Obviously, that's not enough time at all.
So, Hey, Two part movies are popular now days, right? Lets bump ME2 up to being a four hour movie. We have 4 hours (240 mins) instead of 2 hours (120 mins). We'll subtract 45 mins for the Suicide Mission and Project Lazerus. Doing the math for our 15 characters, we end up with about 16 mins to introduce and develop each of them. Its not possible to do what needs to be done in 16 mins.
On top of that, You have the issues of choice, once again. You're going to alienate people on their choices and LI and ete.
Moving on to Mass Effect 3, You run into the issues of ME3's plot. Following the game to a T is not a good idea because of the mess the plot actually is and you're going to reopen old wounds with the endings, espicially if they go with Synthesis or something.
But, on the other hand, writing a new version of the ME3 plot could be....worse.
Over all, Its just simply a bad idea in all ways.

A lot of what you said makes sense, they also said that Watchmen was impossible to make but yet they did anyway to a considerable amount of acclaim. Its just an interesting thought if they finished the script, I would give my take on who could make it. They could fit a lot in a three hour movie these days (Sci-fi epics).

Yeah but that's just her being crazy. If that's what it takes for her to be intimidating, then she's really not fit to play Ashley.

Yes, but, if I remember correctly, They said Watchmen was impossible for very different reasons.
I have a Colonist-Survivor Shepard. He plays Paragade. He saved Kaidan on Virmire.
However, the Movie adaptation could show a Spacer-War Hero full Paragon Shepard who is an Alliance Lap Dog and saves Ashley on Virmire simply because she a "hot sexy LI for Shepard to have sex with".'
I would be utterly alienated by the entire movie because ME cements the idea that "Shepard = Player/Audience". That simply does not translate to a movie.
Now, I have seen some films that shoot different scenes or endings and then each showing has a different ending (The 80s film CLUE would be an example), but it would be impossible to do this on a film series scale.

My thoughts exactly. Every movie Ellen page is in I can't but think what is she 12? How could she be an Elite Space Marine? I really think Erica Cerra would make a seamless transition from Eureka to playing Ashley Williams.
James Caviezel is still the best Shepard imo. He was amazing in The Passion of the Christ, Count of Monte Cristo, and for a look at him in sci fi gear check out Outlander. Guy has the acting chops and with a shaved head looks like Shepard(skin tone, eye color, hair color, nose profile).

Maybe they should just make it like Avatar and mo-cap the entire thing an CGI even the human characters. I think that would make it worth seeing alone.

Trying to find a pic of James Caviezel in his space armor. Gotta love underrated low budget sci fi movies. BTW I like Ellen page but she's just too petite. Even Michelle Rodriguez and Erica Cera are on the small side.

I think it would already almost have to be something like that given the variety of aliens and setting we'd see. At least it would have to be if they wanted it to look good as well. Also my nomination for Ashley: Julia Benson
