DAO adult dark game.
DA2 cartoonish nerve wracking kiddie game.
Why they called DA2 DA2 is beyond me, totally different game style for different audience.

Why the same team that made DA2 is also making DA3 is beyond me. Leaves little hope in my mind for DA3.
Everyone knows the sales of DA2 were heavily skewed by the popularity of DAO. It's like BioWare is kidding itself on purpose rather than admit any fault.
That being said, I don't think I will like the art style of DA3, but a lot would have to happen before I considered buying it anyway.

That doesn't change my opinion on a game's graphics. Some games have good or bad graphics and good or bad graphic styles. It just doesn't bear a lot of weight in my overall opinion of the game. Had my share of good games where the graphics weren't impressive by any means.
Then again, I come from an age of gaming where computer games had limited resources available to them. I've seen how bad the graphics can be and still found the games to be enjoyable. (They still had bad graphics, though.)

I had to heavily mod my character to have him look almost the same way I liked.
They almost look like each other.
I guess having new meshes and more stuff for character creation (more sliders, tints for both genders, more eye&nose shape, different lips and ears shape, muscle slider, fat slider, seriously improving hairstyles...etc) helps a lot.

I Agree that you both need to go by Vision Express and get a refund be you should have gone to Specsavers, afterwards call at the doctors to sort out that squint and the chip on your shoulder and finally visit a masseuese to cure the DAO Butthurt

I suggest you take a remedial course on basic grammar.

The graphics in DA2 are better. The art direction (aesthetics) is debatable.

Played both on max on PC, and they both looked kinda meh. DA2 was clearly a bit more advanced, but negatively compensated for that with some pretty horrible visuals and very uneven and inconsistent art style, if you can even call it that.
I was hoping for three steps forward visually, but I got one forward, one sideward, and two backward.

The darkspawn are a joke, like Dade mentioned, the elves look like they've spent too many generations inbreeding, and the same 4 dudes keep popping up everywhere to accost you.
That's AFTER they take a 3 story plunge from the rooftops.

I preferred origins art style, the graphics in 2 arent worse or better they are different. I hope something leaning towards origins, maybe some influence from the witcher/skyrim. I like the more realistic look opposed to the cartoonish/anime one. I think with all the feed back they are working on a kick-ass game that we won't see teasers/concepts for at least another year.
Same here.
TW2 blew me away with its graphics and art style. I think, besides a few changes (like the qunari; they were awesome!), that DAO looked better. I could even craft distinctly different characters in DAO. In DA2, that's much harder to do.

I'd argue it's more of a mixed bag -- there's technological improvements in some areas, but it looks as a side-effect they lost some fidelity here and there (or it's bad calls with some purposeful changes) Face renderings in particular appear worse despite using basically the same textures.Zanallen wrote...

While I agree that I didn't like some of DA2's art style, specifically the way EVERYTHING was overly dramatic. It felt like a bad anime, the other half the equation is programming and making things shiny.
And modern game engines have gotten too complex for most coders and even companies to handle. There's just a friggen demon's amount of work that a modern game engine does just to make pretty looking things, and there really aren't that many coders in the world that have had the time, talent, and/or resources to keep up.
Did you know that Unreal Engine 4 has more lines of code than it took to get humans to the moon? Modern game engines are some of the most absolutely complex peices of code going, right up there with operating systems and the databases that run google and etc. And that's not too mention how much more demanding performance wise they can be, because you have to keep that framerate up.
Honestly, Bioware might be better off licensing something for DA3, which will be out on whatever they'll call the PS4 and NeXtbox at this rate. Unreal Engine 4, Cryengine 3, something. Maybe DICE's Frostbite 2 would be a good fit, though I've no idea how well developed that engine's tools and etc. are for making an RPG instead of an FPS. Which can definitely be an issue, and one that EA's been guilty of before (previous games have been ruined by foisting a single "miracle" engine onto types of games it wasn't designed to build or run).

To me the enviroments look better, but the characters took a massive down turn, and since the enviroments just repeat they end up looking worse any way if that makes any sense.JusticarFlareon wrote...

(If you want an example, look at Alistair and Zevran from DA:O to DA2. *shudders*

That is not fair. Origins graphics were not effected by it being on the consoles, Bioware made a choice, it was not made by console gamers to go with that style. Bioware also did this style on TOR and it is a PC exclusive.EpicBoot2daFace wrote...
Because it's a console game now. Xbox 360 and PS3 wouldn't be able to run Origins maxed out.

Origins was a PC game. It was ported to consoles very late in the dev cycle. According to Mike Laidlaw, it sold the most on consoles and so consoles were going to be the main focus for DA2.JohnCena94 wrote...

DA2's graphics being worse and everything else being dumbed down... if you don't think that's because it's of it's shift in direction towards consoles, I don't know what to tell you.

The graphics wouldn't need to be dumbed down because of the port. For instance look at how the Crysis dev's handled it. I agree with you on the gameplay though, that was most likely done to try and please console players who love action games.EpicBoot2daFace wrote...

Him and Alistair really got hit by the ugly stick. By far the best looking male character was Cullen.
