 Todd Howard is almost on par with Peter Molyneux in terms of false promises.  Todd Howard promised that the game would be 4 times bigger than it actually was. We were proised a dynamic economy system, realistic wildlife, an immense choise system, and a world that you could shape completely into your own form depending on what you do.
We got none of that. Skyrim was a very shallow experience. It was big and plentiful, but it had no depth.

Did you follow Skyrim news?

I think the point he's trying to make (and if he's not I'll make it for him) is fans of popular games like Mass Effect shouldn't pull the popularity-is-bad card.

Every single game released at the time has had price drops similar to ME3. Hell, some games were already being sold at discounted prices upon release. That is what happened to both Diablo 3 and Ghost Recon here at my local game store.

doesn't change the fact that it was a shameless cash grab move. trying to lore in people who have no interest in mass effect anyway, thus its failure

That is technically incorrect. The post-game plotline retconned the PC's death into a coma.

Actually, there was a new ending in Broken Steel where 3 of the companions could go into the chamber instead. Each immune companion got their own ending video file.

It didn't remove the death, or the stupid need to choose, or make it where you super mutant sidekick could go into the chamber, it changed nothing of the originial except add onto it, which is not what fans of ME want with ME3, they want it removed and replaced, not added on.

You didn't die. You got some serious radiation poisoning instead. That's what Broken Steel did.

In the original one, you also had the choice of sending Sarah Lyons into the Chamber which is what I did. Bye bye Sarah. I'm leaving with Butch. Me no sacrifice.

I wanted and still want the ending of ME3 removed and replaced with a better one, but that's not going to happen in my lifetime. It's an elephant in the room.
