He is a rather misterious figure and on Awakening we get the inpression he is deeply involved into Thedas politics.

Would be fun to know more about him / her and the Wardens at  Weisshaupt

And griffons

Possibly, not probably.

I wonder how one goes about appointing the First Warden.

Grey Wardens don't exactly have a lot of time to climb ranks, and by the time they reach the maturity and experience that such a role requires, they're usually only a few years away from The Calling.

Bah, The Warden should become the new First Warden. I killed an Archdemon without dying and run Ferelden's order better than Duncan ever did.

Also you're mistaken. The Grey Wardens are involved in the politics of the Anderfels, not all of Thedas. What's said in Awakening is first said by Riordan in Origins. The Wardens call the shots in the Anderfels apparently because the King is weak and nobody cares about him.

Would explain what Wardens did for 390 years after the 4th blight.

Makes sense too, for many reasons. Grey Wardens are present in every country, armed and ready, an elite fighting team. Wardens need to keep each country functional enough that a new Blight gets acted upon, as we saw in DAO having a civil war puts a dampen on fighting a Blight.

Besides having yet another secret society / group would be a bit lame IMHO. We already have Mages, Templars, Seekers, Wardens, Silver Knights...

As for longevity, the mage on Wardens Keep managed to survive 200 years so I don't think having the First Warden survive 50 would be a great stretch

I've always wondered whether the new order of inquisitors could be a splinter group of the Grey Wardens.

I was reading an in game codex on DA2 and it seems the templars were called "Inquisitors" before their treaty with the chantry and the circle of magi was created. Interesting, no ?

And what if the First Grey Warden died in your game?

I think we'll play a new character... human and fully voiced I fear...

You are confusing the First Warden with your own character. The First Warden is the leader of all Grey Wardens, he's located in Weisshaupt..

I'd hope not. The Warden Order should stay irrelevant until we reach the Anderfels.

On the contrary, the Wardens are respected throughout Thedas and among all races. With good reason too.

Which makes a lot of people resentful of Wardens. I can't imagine there were no attempts to eliminate those "meddlesome Wardens" on the last 300 years before the 5th Blight. It is human nature. jealousy and a threat most consider extinct would make a lot of greedy ambitious rulers try to get the Warden resources and secrets for themselves. IMHO thos would have forced the First Warden to be very politically savyy and very well informed about the power plays in Thedas.

Thanks... Yes I misunderstood

It could be.. but I think Grey Wardens are supposed to be neutral, not directly involved with Chantry's business.
But I di hope Wardens will play a major role in DA3, and we'll have a chance to see Weisshaupt Fortress.

Wardens are supposed to be neutral. True.

But think about this: 400 years without a major darkspawn attack. How did the Warden order survive ?

Right after the 4th blight, on the codex we see that the "ordinary people" were told that the darkspawn were eradicated. Rulers knew that wasn't the case so they gladly signed treaties with the Wardens but after a generation or two things started changing

Would the son or grandson taking the throne remember what went on before ? Would he / she care ? There were no major attacks, most people thought darkspawn was gone, Wardens were way too powerful and demanding.. And currently useless.

In 100-200 years, a lot of the rulers would have reconsidered their support for the GW order. Some would start to envy their power and resources. A lot of them would resent having to attend to the Wardens conscription's. Aveline does and she saw a Blight!!!

The Wardens would have been attacked and hunted, sooner or later. As a matter of fact, they were attacked and expelled from Ferelden! Sure it was Sophia Dreyden's fault but a) She was undesirable on court and forced into the GW order, that shows how lowly GW were seen at the time and B) Few people sided with her and the Wardens even though her enemy was rumored to be mad.

So you see, GW can not just sit idly for 400 years and hope everyone will respect them and never attack the order. The First Warden has to have spies and agents in every place that houses Wardens and he/ she has to act to avoid more repeats of the Soldier's Peak siege.

Not that I think the First Warden is going to be the Inquisitor (in fact I would rate it as very unlikely), but if for some reason it was him/her, it would be a good thing. Why? Because the Wardens are neutral. They aren't going to put mages above templars, or vice versa. They would be the most likely candidates to actually view the situation from an unbiased position. Like I said though, the First Warden being the next PC as opposed to an established NPC seems unlikely.

They are neutral, powerful and respected. And no one knows or suspects that they do anything but their stated mission which is to be ready for blights. So they would be ideal spies

I think the Wardens will support the inquisition, but I doubt they ARE the inquisition.
