Conventional victory simply wasn't possible. Hackett was both awesome and speaking the truth.

Getting back on topic...

Dominic Asoba is appointed as the acting Councilor after Udina is killed.

Political leadership = Asoba

Military leadership = Hackett

It's not that, because heaven forbid we have enough threads talking about that.
It is however about we are not even 30 minutes into the war, and Hackett gives up. Nope, to hell with any other plans. No new tech. No new anything. Just give up until we get this unknown, incomplete thing built.

Honestly I stopped taking Hackett seriously after Mars. ...I stopped taking Shep seriously after "we fight or we die." and "this isn't about strategy or tactics." I never headdesked so hard at a BW game before.

More like "Commander, not only have I just lost an entire fleet for no reason, but I also lost my backbone and can now only approve of plans that involve real shady alien devices of unknown function and isn't even complete. Not only that, but once we begin to fight back, I will use techniques made outdated by Napolean hundreds of years ago against beings who are older than known history."

True, but I was initially put off by the shoddy dialogue.

He could have had genius strategy, and he still would have sounded lame, the way some of his stuff was written.

It's called facing reality. Hell, call it competence.

Facing reality = "I'm going to completely stop doing my job and put my faith in this thing we found five minutes ago without coming up with ANY backup plans what-so-ever."?

Should be more like "Ok, fighting these guys head on is a bad idea. Now we have this device that we THINK might do the job, so we'll go ahead and start building it. However, since we're not sure if it'll actually do the job or can actually complete it because we have no idea what this critical part is, I'm going to come up with backup plans. We shall put this group of scientists to work on tech X, these on tech Y, and this group of military planners on plan Z. Given enough time, either these other plans will come up with something, or this Crucible do-thingie will be our best shot."

Thus, ME3's Hackett is INcompetent and a moron.

True the dialogue is pretty bad too. Was always pretty bad but at least in ME1 and ME2 most of the truly terribad lines were avoidable. Can't do that in ME3 with it's hardon for autodialogue.

...And using a untested weapon is competence? Uh...nope. Protheans were competent. Make backup plan and then rely on the weird untested thing. That's competence. Only reason Protheans failed was because they had crap for luck.

Yes. Let's divert resources from the superweapon designed to kill the Reapers while millions die everyday on Earth. You know what, the Crucible did work. The Reapers were destroyed because Hackett chose the right course of action. 20/20 hindsight b*tches.

Hackett is awesome. Anyone who says otherwise is a communist and will be arrested by the CIA post haste.

This, hate ME3 all you want, but when you start hating Hackett, you are damned to hell for all eternity.

They had to build an entirely new dreadnaught for Hackett, simply because his gonads kept damaging the deck plating.

Said weapon was incomplete and didn't come with a handy note of "This kills Reapers" at the beginning.
Hell! The Crucible is just a big powersource really. It's not a weapon. If the beacon on Thessia had been stomped, if the Reapers didn't act monumentally stupid in defending the Citadel, this plan would've failed and Hackett's best back up idea is to... take them on head on even though he's been saying that you can't do that.

Stupidity and incompetence.

It's a power source, not a weapon.

Agreed.

Diverting resources away from the Crucible in order to work on other experimental technology would have represented a waste of those resources. All it would have accomplished is slowing the Crucible Project down, and that would have been a delay the galaxy couldn't afford.

If the US for example wasn't entirely sold on the Manhattan Project, and had instead diverted some resources that would have otherwise been spent for that project to developing other weapons or technology, it is likely that it wouldn't have had an atomic bomb before Operation Downfall.
