Sounds like some sort of graphics card issue. If you have latest drivers already, you could try setting 'DisableMRT' to true under the Video options setting in your ini file. With that card you should play with graphics set to low.

I get this exact problem with my GeForce 8600GTS, though it usually takes an hour or so of gameplay before the flickering happens, and once it does quitting the game and restarting it does not help.
Disabling physx did not solve the problem.

Did you patch the game?

First of all. get a new GFX card yours suck and can hardy run the game in the first place.
Second. Sounds like a heating problem, download a program like speedfan, to check the temperature of your hardware when this happens.

The tone in the answers here leave a lot to be desired -- however it sounds as if you're having an overheating problem. Check out the backside of your computer and make sur the vents aren't totally clogged up with dust/hairs/fluff. I find vacuuing the backside of the computer usually helps to get that stuff away. I'd tell you to open the case and do some hoovering in there as well but as it's not totally risk-free. I will not.
Also, you should think about upgrading the graphics card in the near future if you plan on playing newer games. But make sure your other hardware is up to scratch as well before sploshing out on a new card.

You haven't mentioned monitoring your temperatures. You need to do that. Part of what you described can be caused by overheated GPUs.
Ignore the peanut gallery's less helpful remarks. At least one probably didn't realize that the OP wrote so long ago and isn't around any more. That video card is comparatively old, but not junk yet (6800 Ultra).

To The Naturo: Uhh...your an axx! Not everybody has the money tree that apparently grows in your backyard to buy a new graphics card. If you don't have anything useful to say, just shut the hll up, moron. Of course, I'll bet YOU can't buy your own graphics card either...MOMMY probably gets baby anything he wants in exchange for favors...

Three things come to mind.
1. Game not patched to version 1.01. They fixed some graphics corruption problems in that patch.
2. Drivers outdated. Head over to NVidia and download the latest drivers for your GFX card.
3. Overheating. If the above doesn't solve the problem, watch your temperatures while playing and see if your CPU/GFX card get very hot (80C+). A common symptom of an overheating graphics card is initially graphics corruption, followed by instability/crashing.

Dear Bioware, or anyone who knows what they are doing. I am a good customer, I buy your game, and your DLC. I am an avid gamer with an income that allows me to buy games as I desire. I cannot complete your DOA as the more complex my charachter becomes, the more crashes, as reported here, happen. I upgraded my system to max ram for vista, I have a quad core system with an 8800 ATI video card. I have no similar problems on games with high level usage. Your game crashes constantly, sometimes you may get 20 minutes to a few hours. The first time I played it, it went for hours without a crash. Now I am lucky, even when starting new charachters, to not get a crash every 20-30 minutes, sometimes 2 minutes. I am becoming so upset with your companies product that I refuse to buy Mass Effect 2, or the new Dragon Age game, as I have no faith they will be any better then this. Please FIX this issue, there are many many posts, to encourage me to invest more in your companies products. Regards

I have the same card mentioned above (8600 GTS) and played through the game splendidly at first (at least from a visual perspective). I am now getting similar flickering problems after patching to 1.03. One difference I have is that if I simply go into the video settings and change anything, the flickering stops (usually I toggle V-sync on/off). It does come back eventually at which time I repeat and all is clear for awhile. It is an annoying cycle, but not totally a game killer as I can "reset" in game without any lock-ups.
Because this symptom did not exist before, does not appear in any other application, and only started post-patch to 1.03, it seems logical to assume that it is the patch and not the hardware

8800 GTS - Game killer problem solved!! After crawling through the posts, some bright poster mentioned going into Nvidia's settings and TURNING OFF the PHYSX setting (just a tick in the box setting) All of a sudden, all problems have vanished. It appears that my graphics card was dumping all of the effects to the CPU, and in the meantime, I was getting lockups and kick outs the further the game progressed. This really needs to be a big sticky note somewhere for NVIDIA Video Cards re this game.
