I'm glad to see my testicles are safe. See. Score matters to everyone. Whether it be to see if you're the best, to see how good/bad you're match is going, to work on different builds. Score matters.

Depending on what you subscribe to, only 1 or 2 things matter in this game. Credits, or extraction. That's it. Complete that, score means nada.

Me, personally, work towards extraction and love wave 10 hack objectives. Best rounds of the game. Typically after wave 5, I'll start checking scores, cause that when you start to see who can play and who can't. So, please, stop bragging on always being #1 on the boards. When you play pugs, any competent player can top the board blind folded. It's not a major accomplishment. Just take your credits and zip it.

No, in fact I worry if I am in first place...I play engineers 99% of the time and if my QFE is first by a large margin, then the team is being carried by a small Quarian and her shotgun.

*nod* I play Justicar in about 90% of my platinum games. I always expect to come in 2nd or 3rd. If I'm in 1st then I'm carrying a team... which means someone's getting kicked after the game is over. If I come in 4th then it means the other players are exceptionally good and playing like a real Plat team. I've never come in 4th on my Justicar with more than 10K difference between that and 2nd place.

I honestly don't care. If we're completing the match and no glitches are being exploited, points don't matter to me since we all get the same EXP at the end.

Not really. Usually when I'm not first its cause I ran into an exceptional player in pugs (which isn't very common :/) and then I dun mind since they likely helped make the match smoother, or its cause I was ported in mid-match and wasn't playing one of my main damage-dealers to have the time to catch-up.

And as others have pointed out a bit, some classes like the GI, Fury, MQI, SI, and Destroyer are practically built to tear up the scoreboard if played right. Other classes can do the same, but it usually takes considerably more effort.

I'm more concerned w/ getting past the wave 10 objective, and whether I had to blow most/all my consumables to get there when no one else is.

I wish I was second of third more. That would mean I'm in a good team and I have to work less

I know there are many players out there better than me - I just don't get to play with them very often.

Many time when someone outscores me - all it does it make me play the next match harder. If It happens multiple rounds - i start paying attention - what are they doing that I am not? I'll even switch over to there class and run around with them.

I'm a team player - but i'm competitive.. I want to be the BEST team player. :) lol

When I'm not first (and it happens very rarely) I'm very pleased, especially if it happens on gold/platinum difficulty, because I know that the team is now strong as hell and we will successfully end game in short time.

I feel concerned if I'm last. Don't like to feel like a burden, probably shouldn't either, but can't help. Also, I do get angry when people fire proxi-mines directly at a phantom or banshee when they have teammates using flamer/incendiary. Proxi-mines proc the hand of denial, no damage or debuff goes through, and your teammates' DoT goes to hell.

That reminds me of another shameful trick I pull if I'm close dropping to 2nd on the last wave.

Even if everybody is safely in the extraction zone and the dropship is just about there, I'll use one last rocket to secure my position in first place.

Again, I know it's stupid... and it is actually further proof that the final score doesn't truly reflect how helpful you were to the team.

I wouldn't go so far as to use rockets, but if it's an XP related run (trying to lvl up), I'd make sure to spray the map to bump up some extraction kills.

No I don't. Especially when I play with the likes of sy7ar and Strenton, I know I am not going to even touch their scores unless I am playing with the GI and they are playing with a below average character.

I'm generally in first place. Very rare that I am not there. When I get dropped into a match on wave 3 after the other guy was the only one there, I can usually make up for the difference by the end of the match.

However, when I see that i'm close to getting into second after I casually check the score board, my competitive try-hard mode kicks in. I start playing to win. The other two players are largely irrelevant. I check that scoreboard frequently to see where the two of us are in standing.

If I still end up losing, it's by 3000 or less. I know that this is going to be a great lobby, try-hard mode switches off, and I just enjoy the breeze that has been renamed "playing".

This doesn't count when I end up in 3rd place and it's bronze and i'm level 1, get dropped into a game right before the end of wave 6's objective, and the two players higher than me are: a levl 17 N7 Fury in first place (a terrible one at that. Whole match nothing but DC and Throw...from point-blank range) and a level 12 engineer in second place (forgot his exact class, but he was only 7,000 away from the Fury).

Hell no.

If someone's outscoring me, that means I don't have to carry for once.

Finally someone with the ambitions to better themeselves and the competitive instinct to become great. I take my hat off to statements like this, I wish my lobbies were full of your kind.

I check the score after almost every round, for some weird vanity reason. But I don't really get jealous.

I'm used to not being top because I'm a crap shot. I see GIs scoring more than double my points and I think "Nice, I can't hit a door to save my butt."

By contrast, if I top the score, I will be wondering at the competency of my teammates ...

If I ever carry a team, those guys definitely do not belong in Gold difficulty.

Nope, not me. Just means I need to try harder. But at the end of the day, does it really matter?  No. But like OP stated, I too have a bit of a competitive side. Now when someone talks trash about being first, that's when it really brings out my aggressive play style. It sucks when I know I have a support class with me and knowing well I can't go all Rambo and start racking up kills.  Oh well, there are good days and bad days.  No matter how good you really are, there is always somebody better.  What feels better?  Carrying the team or having excellent teamwork?

Yes. I do. I'm very petty and I'll do anything to win. It's served me very well so far.

This is a co-op game so I really could not care less about my score. What I do care about is how much I am enjoying the game.

No, it does not matter for me. I usually end up first or second, sometimes last, but it does not bug me one bit. It is a co-op mode and the whole squad is working towards the same goal, same exp, and same credits. Even if I get last place because the other players were good I still know I contributed to the bigger picture.

I often say score is meaningless, but deep down I know that's not true. (I know certain characters won't ever being showing their true value)

That being said, the best games I've ever been in our the ones where everyone is pretty much neck to neck.

I don't care. With a destroyer equipped a level 3 Harrier, I'm usually 1st on gold and silver. If I'm not, then I am happy, because someone is killing things fast. If i play a support class, then I don't care. Maybe on gold, when my salarian engie is 1st with a phlanax X. That's not a good sign.

I'm the opposite. I usually stick to support classes unless I whip out my Justicar, so if I'm first in points, that's usually a bad thing. For instance, last week I was playing a Human Soldier on Platinum with an N7 Destroyer, a Vorcha Sentinel and an Asari Adept. Why was I in first place, people?

I always usually finish at the top. With that said I don't get pissy when I don't. I know something is up though if I finish dead last.

This multiplayer is not competitive. There's absolutely no reason to pretend it is. I play to get credits. If im dead last on the scoreboard, it means absolutely nothing to me so long as the team has completed the wave 10 objective.
