Exactly. Wearing that giant metal bucket you couldn't even walk through doors, now that would be really helpful in house-to-house fighting and CQB, not to mention the near zero mobility with badly designed joints like that.
I'm happy that the ME designers did NOT go with the flow and made something believable.

But there's a difference between power armor and standard armor. ME has shields and super high tech stuff. One could argue that armor in that series is rather pointless. However, in Fallout, there are no shields. The only thing betwen you and death is a thick set of armor. The Woldan wrote...

That's power-armor
It's supposed to be huge and bulky
Halo armor is essentially the same thing. The principle behind power armor is that it has systems designed to aid in the wearer's movement, in many cases negating the fatigue that the weight of the armor has on the wearer

Armor in Mass Effect is very important, especially with how quickly most enemies can drop your shields. Armor's going to protect you even when your shields(barriers) are down.EpicBoot2daFace wrote...

Plus, barriers are worthless in h2h/close combat.

When i play a Mass Effect game, i enjoy the look of the armour. When i play a Halo game, i enjoy the look of the armour and when i play a Fallout game i enjoy the look of the armour.
So long as it actually looks like armour and fits the universe, it's all good.

No thanks.

This isn't about visual style. It's about creativity and practicality.

The demolisher is just the female version of Kaidan's alternate appearance (or is it James? I forget). So they didn't come up with entirely new armor sets for any of the MP characters.Tup3xi wrote...

Many multiplayer armours are better than what Shepard gets. That annoys the **** out of me.
Actually, most armors are exactly what he gets, believe it or not. Destroyer armor is just Terminus with a spud gun. Paladin armor is essentially Cerberus/Inferno armor. I mean, they had time to strap the launcher on the Terminus. Why not spend a little extra time to tweak it. It's obviously a different model now.
Personally, I find the amount of armor to be pretty staggering. I find myself not knowing what to do with most of the armor that I find, and the full suits are too expensive for me to bother with. I rather like ME's down-to-Earth style of armor. The Halo 4 armor looks too flashy.
On the topic of that Halo 4 armor, it looks suspiciously like a human wearing Covenant armor, or armor augmented by Covenant tech. That's cool I guess, but I preferred the look of the old Mjolnir armor.

Sorry to go a little off-topic, but what armor is this exactly? It wasn't in the list of armors and specializations that 343i revealed a while back...
For the record, I actually like the armor selection in Mass Effect 3... some of them, anyway. My personal favorites are N7 Defender, Inferno, Hahne-Kedar, and Reckoner-Knight... though Blood Dragon, Terminous, and Cerberus armors I think rather ugly.
It would be nice if we could have some of the multiplayer armors for single-player... like the N7 Destroyer's T5-V Battlesuit (which actually looks better than Terminous Armor, IMO) the N7 Demolisher armor, and the Cerberus Pheonix armor. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on those.

I think ME3 did a decent job of matching the style of the armour to the stats that it gave a boost to. This in turn could easily be used to match the character and class you created. I like that, and as far as the armour pieces went they did ok here.
However, I do think they have totally skimped out. One new full armour that doesn't even have a new helmet and the rest are all carried over from ME2.
I am not totally sure about this, but I think the majority of the pieces are carried over from ME2 aswell.
This was a new game, Shepard is back with the alliance completing new missions in new parts of the galaxy and is collecting the same armour pieces?! I think that is really quite weak.
MP has had a bunch of designs for all the characters (whether new or just reskinned from enemies and other species already created in SP in terms of design), ME Infiltrator had 4 armours and helmets, all looking decent IMO... while ME3 SP gets a few new items, the main part of the game and core of the series gets a few new items.
They haven't even made an Alliance armour for him, N7 pieces, maybe even N7 class specific armours or... in 3 games they never made a Spectre Armour?!
If all they do is reskin the MP armours for us I will accept it, but I think that is pretty weak sauce... SP deserves better than that.

Creativity determines visual style, you can't argue they aren't connected. Practicality is an empty argument in a sci-fi setting. Unless, of course, you mean something that looks practical which brings us back to visual style.
In the book Starship Troopers, the author's description of power armor was pretty practical. Just because it's sci-fi doesn't mean it has to be over-the-top or impractical.

I'd love to see a space marine shepard personally but I am not complaining about the current style.
What I will complain about is how kestrel armor is missing from the game though. What's the point of only including the damn helmet? They included all me2 armors except that one and I loved it in me2.

The nano suit in Crysis was interesting because it felt very weighty and interactive.

What I feel that Bioware is lazy or cheap in armor design is the companions' armor. Samara going through vacuum in sex fetish suit? Come on. I know Liara is a biotic, but why would she goes into combat with me in that female version of tuxedo? I can understand that Tali's people don't have a planet, so they can't afford expensive armor, but after she joins up with Shepard, I would have thought that at least Shepard could fork out some cash for a suit of combat armor for the people fighting along with you.

I agree, I think the armour pieces are decent. It can be frustrating choosing armour for the stats rather than the look though! But, more options is always better!
I also think the full armours are hugely dissappointing, especially as they are all carried over from ME2 (I am not counting the Defender armour as that was a preorder perk). I also rarely use the full armours as they have have the combo of stats and looks that I want and you can make much better looks and stats from the pieces IMO.
And yes, the design of your squads look has always confused me. A few of them are decent but I can't believe there was never an option to provide a consistent style design and look (colours and such) across your whole squad. As for the clothing rather than armour options on the female squad mates... that was just always ridiculous.

Fotus Armor. Its emblem is represented with a unicorn.
So, uh, if it doesn't utterly fail by merit of that alone, I don't know what does. It's ornate, which is popular with the kids, because they love anime and value style over substance. I'm a greedy bastard, so I want style AND substance, which I think Mass Effect covers fairly nicely. There's a practicality to Mass Effect's armor and gear, or what I feel is the closest approximation attainable in science fiction. It's visually appealing, without compromising total believability.
It all boils down to taste. Some people might agree with me, others might enjoy armor with horns and actual unicorn decals.
Who am I to judge?

More than one time I found myself looking at my chars and thinking "this armor set I picked looks great on him/her", and frankly I don't recall doing that in many other games. I also find the diversity to be pretty darn good.
Bulky armor? No thanks, I don't need to play with Jim Raynor.
