Please do not tell me that you are all starting to get upset because ONE person among you doesn't hate or dislike the Catalyst.
People are not upset because one person likes something they don't, most likely they'll start trolling at some point in this thread.
As for the OP, I don't like the Catalyst, but as for many others things in this game, it is not a matter of substance (what it represent, what it is), but a matter of form (how it is presented, how it explains its purpose).

That would be unfair because I created this Thread and I wanted to show support. I don't want this to be locked because people hate all this and want to troll.

I do wish he spoke in normal dialogue instead of unskippable cutscenes, though. That's literally the one thing about him that really bothers me.

I know this will shock people but i really like the Catalyst as a character,
it shows the other spectrum of an shackled A.I. , gave the reaper a deeper meaning...and made Mass Effect better as a whole.

Literal interpretation: - created the reapers that have killed billions on billions of people - killed his creators - is a rogue AI
IT interpretation: - is Harbinger or a rogue AI - is trying to trick Shepard
Both: - the Catalyst is deceptive - the Catalyst is in Shepard's mind - is the leader of the Reapers

100% legit stuff - when some kind of "shackled" AI is messing with your head and took the form of long ago dead child... srsly

You have to go through hell and look deep into the internet to try and find someone who actually likes the Catalyst. And then you'd probably just figure out that they're trolling.
Guess what. I'm not trolling. And like I said: I don't like the Catalyst as in supporting his wanting for destruction. I support the Presence, the Concept, the Scenery, etc.

Lol, sorry I didn't mean to imply that you were trolling, I mean to find someone who geniunely likes everything about the catalyst, supports his motives, agrees with his solution, likes his presence, his execution, everything; not just the concept of him because that I can understand. That would be an accomplishment.MASSEFFECTfanforlife101 wrote...

- No recognizable appearance and is more akin to Vigil. -
One of the massive irritations amongst the fanbae is BioWare incessant desire to force that horrendous kid down our throats; "FEEL SAD! FEEL SAD, DAMMIT!" His only dialogue as a human is some of the worst voice acting in gaming history and a laughably cheap sympathy pull. Going with a new character look would do wonders for it.
- Allow Shepard to be Shepard -
Shepard having essentially no control and being a mindless drone through the catalyst's monologue completely devalued any possible benefit the catalyst may have served to the story because the player will inevitably sit wondering why the dialogue wheel went on vacation.
Personally, Harbinger could and likely should have reprised his role as the series' central antagonist and de facto leader of the Reaper armada; with our subsequent exchange being a back and forth between him and Shepard. This would allow the plot to unveil tidbits of the Reapers' motivations whilst preserving narrative integrity. Ultimately, Shepard would have a Paragon or Renegade stance and we shift into a full scale war.
Frankly, how I would have bridged the stories is the Collector Base is actually an enormous weapon itself and it replaces the Crucible, in addition to our exploring known means to combat them. The Catalyst/Harbinger would serve was that final confrontation before war; a call back to Saren if you will.
Alas, we didn't get any of this. Just a lesson that BioWare should stay far away from philosophical narrative because they comprehend it about as well as four year old does politics.

For those who don't "hate" the Catalyst, and for those who welcome the Catalyst.
Shocked?
I don't hate this Character. I liked the idea. The Catalyst, in my opinion, proves that there is more to Outer Space than just Stars, Planets, and Aliens. Proof that there are things out there beyond our understanding, supernatural or not. That's part of what space is all about right? The "Unknown?"
So....yeah. Pretty much my opinion. I'm not one of the players who STILL hates sll of this.
You say that like it's a bad thing. Maybe people who "still" hate the Catalyst, hate him because their minds are made up, and have been made up since the beginning. The Catalyst is an awful character, and will always serve as an example of what not to do in the last 10 minutes of your story.
I don't see it as a bad thing either. People will inevitably like or dislike certain characters, and there isn't much that can be done. Simple passage of time will not make somebody learn to like a character. At best, it will make them simply move on. The way you get people to like a character is to give them reasons, but since the Catalyst is dropped in at the last minute and causes a myriad of problems, that isn't going to happen. So, people still hate the Catalyst because there isn't much reason not to hate it. I still don't like Vega because I wasn't given adequate reason to like the character. The months since ME3 released have no impact on that opinion because nothing about him has changed. I still don't like the Catalyst because it is fundamentally the same even with the EC. The same flawed logic and random dropping of a god-like character still exist. At best, I'll learn to move on, but it's not like I'll eventually come to support it.

Just the other day I saw a pregnant 13 year old.
Really made me think twice about destroying the Reapers.
